Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cousin brother, Umar Nurmagomedov, was all set to display his commendable fighting prowess against Cory Sandhagen, at UFC Fight Night 225. However, fate had different plans for the fighter. He had to pull out of the fight early on, leaving the fans in disappointment. The disheartened fighter had no choice but to take to social media and explain the reason behind his decision.
Ali Abdelaziz, head of Dominance MMA and Nurmagomedov’s manager, previously revealed that the bantamweight star would not be able to fight ‘The Sandman’ owing to an unforeseen accident. The jaw-dropping announcement has created a void in the card. But the Dagestani star would not let this setback affect his ambitions.

Nurmagomedov recently took to Instagram and shared a video in his IG Story. He also shared a note for the public. The Dagestani warrior wrote, “Fighting the most important fight in my life with torn shoulder ligaments, would be the biggest stupidity in my life. Going to have surgery soon. The video showed Nurmagomedov sparring at the American Kickboxing Academy. While sparring with his partner, the fighter got hit in the shoulder and backed off. Later, it was revealed that he had his shoulder ligaments torn in the accident.
While the fight against Sandhagen would have been quite a big event for the Russian, he simply could not enter the Octagon with an injury. He further announced that he would undergo surgery to treat his shoulder. The fighter had no option but to walk out of the card with nothing but disappointment in his heart.
Nurmagomedov promises to come back stronger
In another post on Instagram, he shared the extended version of the video, along with a promise to the world. He captioned, “Things happen. And injuries are just a part of the sporting life. Praise be to Allah in any situation. Of course I’m upset, but I’m not complaining one bit. Ambitions and goals are the same. Fix my shoulder And I will come back stronger. InshaAllah”
