UFC fans met with a major disappointment as Beneil Dariush versus Charles Oliveira at UFC 288 was postponed. The former lightweight champion met with an injury and the fans were in disbelief. The fight was an important one as the winner of this fight would have faced Islam Makhachev for the lightweight championship in Abu Dhabi in October.
Dariush has opened up about his conversation with the UFC regarding his future fights. Dariush revealed some of the things that made him upset along with why he was about to take “Justin Gaethje‘s advice”.

The lightweight spoke about his conversation with the UFC after Charles Oliveira was injured and his fight had to be postponed. However, Dariush also came up with solutions of his own.
Dariush revealed in an interview with ‘The Schmo’, “I was actually pretty upset at that time but you know, took a minute and kind of calmed down.” While revealing how he made a case for himself to fight Islam Makhachev, he added, “So I go in and basically say to them hey if that’s the case like if he’s not available let me fight Makhachev in let’s say July or August. But they’re like, ‘No, we have to save Makhachev for October for the Abu Dhabi card’.”
Dariush also revealed that he does not want to wait until October to get into a fight. However, he also thinks he deserves to be fighting next. Dariush is in a conundrum of his own.

The 33-year-old lightweight saw this as an opportunity to ask for a title shot. But he was met with a major shock by Dana White. Dariush revealed that he is not considered the number-one contender in the UFC.
Dariush added, “They said there’s people ahead of me and they specifically pointed out to Dustin Poirier and at that point I was about to flip the table. You know I was about to take Justin Gaethje’s advice you know. He said, ‘If Dariush doesn’t get the title shot we riot.’ And I was very close to that.”
