Conor McGregor is still looking for a comeback fight after the broken leg suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. For a long time, Michael Chandler was expected to be his rival before the lightweight moved on and booked himself a fight against Charles Oliveira, leaving ‘The Notorious’ high and dry. With no opponent in mind and plenty of free time in hand, McGregor decided to call out Belal Muhammad.
Muhammad wasn’t the first choice for the Irishman to make his comeback; however, this truly could be an interesting fight considering that it would be a title match for the welterweight belt. The callout came when McGregor criticized the champion’s lack of knockouts in his career. The Irishman compared his stats with Muhammad and asked for a title fight.
He said, “What do you think about Belal Muhammad as a champ? Oh he’s woeful. I want to fight him. Okay, Chandler’s matched. Belal, McGregor, UFC Welterweight World title fight on the line. I’ve multiple knockouts at 170. I’m a force to be reckoned with at 170. I do damage at 170, yeah. Check the stats. So, I’ve done them at 100% accuracy. This man hasn’t even got a knockdown in UFC history. Not one knockdown; it’s embarrassing to be honest.” It is worth noting that McGregor wanted his return to the Welterweight division, and that’s exactly what he would be getting with the fight. And much to the Irishman’s delight, it seems like Muhammad too is interested in fighting.

Muhammad uploaded a video where he mocked McGregor’s habit of calling out fighters yet never booking a fight. Something McGregor had also previously done with Muhammad. The champion also reminded the Irishman of the consequences of calling out fighters as Khabib Nurmagomedov truly destroyed him inside the Octagon. However, if he still wants to fight, Muhammad would like to have that match. “Stop doing this to yourself, you don’t want this to happen again. I’d rather help you than fight you bro. But if you do want to fight, Dana, hit my line.”

Especially after McGregor has proved time and again that he isn’t really serious about making his comeback. So here’s what the fans had to say about the callout.

As soon as the video of the callout hit the internet, fans were quick to share their reactions to it. A majority of them believe that McGregor is now begging for a fight after he took way too much time with Chandler and is now left without an opponent to make his comeback. As they wrote, “How the mighty has fallen, he is begging for a Belal fight😂,” “Connor Mcgregor begging for Belal before GTA 6,” and “He really fell off calling for a Belal fight. How the tables have turned. Now he has to call people out.”
A user even compared him to Jake Paul. The YouTuber turned boxer has often been made fun of for his habit of calling out others and not getting into a real fight. “From UFC double champ turn into Jake Paul.” Another user accused McGregor of being an alcoholic and mentioned how Nurmagomedov once predicted the downfall of the former Double Champion. “Lots of talk lately and nothing we see lmao. This went from being the best to be to an alcohol problems. Habib was right, When money comes to head, you are done 😂🙌🙌🙌”

However, there were still some fans who believed in McGregor’s skill. While some users believed the Irishman could win the fight, “Tbh Conor wins this fight yall,” others believed that it surely can be a great fight to witness, “Guys, Conor isn’t Leon. He starts fast and puts the pressure on asap. Belal will shoot quick vs. Conor, imo. I’d like to see it 🤷♂️ What if Conor won tho? What would haters say then? Would be tough, but anything could happen.” Well, only time will tell what outcome the fans truly get. But it seems like McGregor has to make his comeback soon; otherwise, he surely is losing his credibility, as evident from the reactions.
