Former UFC champion Luke Rockhold is gearing up to make his bare-knuckle debut at BKFC 41 against ex-UFC star Mike Perry. It will be his first fight since leaving the UFC in 2022. Rockhold appeared in an interview recently and opened up on if he’d consider coming back to the UFC in the future.
Luke Rockhold is a former UFC middleweight champion. He was one of the most elite performers of the division for almost a decade in Dana White‘s promotion. However, he developed a strained relationship with the UFC president and decided to move on from the company after losing to Paulo Costa at UFC 278.
Luke Rockhold reveals the reason behind his UFC exit

The former middleweight champion mentioned that he was tired of dealing with the people in UFC and needed to take some time off. Rockhold said, “I kind of wanted to see other things, for sure.” He added, “I was just tired of the UFC and dealing with them. I needed a break.”
Luke Rockhold also mentioned that he was having some trouble with his legs, and that was one of the major reasons behind his UFC exit.
However, Luke Rockhold is still going to fight for a while. He also mentioned that the way UFC used to work during his stint, he wasn’t a fan of it.
The former champion felt ‘handcuffed’ in UFC
Luke Rockhold is enjoying his time as a free agent because, during his stint in the UFC, he felt as if he was held back from pursuing other endeavors. He said, “I think there are a lot of other options out there for me too, so I’m not going to be handcuffed myself to one thing like the UFC.”

He also claimed that he has no intentions of working on Dana White’s promotion again due to the rigidity of the system. The Former champion added, “Getting stuck in that revolving door of the UFC and them picking and choosing for me, it’s like ‘No, it’s not for me. I’ve done that sh*t.'”

This Saturday marks the start of Rockhold’s journey outside of the UFC. He is not aiming to become the world champion in the BKFC. But he is trying to avail all the benefits by getting an interesting match-up and getting the biggest paychecks. We will have to see how his new journey pans out.
