Islam Makhachev seems to be made from the same cloth as Khabib Nurmagomedov. This is not surprising, given that they grew up together in their native province of Dagestan. They even started their martial arts training from Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father, Abdulmanap.

Nurmagomedov is also part of the coaching team of Makhachev and has been an integral part of his rise to becoming a lightweight champion. And in his response to fighting Alexander Volkanovski, Makhachev had something very motivational to say. This greatly impressed UFC CEO Dana White, as well as fans, who took to social media to give their thoughts on it.

Islam Makhachev’s quote moves Dana White to make an unusual request

Islam Makhahcev will rematch Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294. He was originally scheduled to fight Charles Oliveira in the main event, but the latter pulled out due to a last-minute injury. And on facing Volkanovski on short notice, Makhachev had something very inspirational to say.

“What does this title represent? It means you’re the best in the world and if you’re the best in the world it doesn’t matter who is standing across from you. What do I say? No? Never. Let’s do this,” he said.

This statement moved Dana White so much that he asked his staff to put that quote on the walls of the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and its performance institute. And fans had a field day.
