Just as promised, the UFC officially announced the main event for UFC 309, and the world of mixed martial arts is getting hyped up. But it’s not the good kind of hype. UFC 309 will witness Jon Jones going up against Stipe Miocic in the main event. The event is scheduled to take place on the 16th of November at Madison Square Garden, New York. However, the fighting community isn’t happy with the matchup.
Needless to say, the MMA realm was waiting for Jones to defend his heavyweight championship title back in 2023. But things didn’t work out as ‘Bones’ was forced to pull out because of his torn pectoral muscles. Now, as the date has been finalized after about a year, the fighting community wants the heavyweight champ to fight Tom Aspinall.
Talking to ‘Complex Sports’, Dana White confirmed that Jones would defend his championship belt at UFC 309. The UFC head honcho said, “Jon Jones is gonna fight in Madison Square Garden in November. And then if he wins, or Stipe wins, we see what happens next.” White is expected to reveal the entire card for the event at the end of UFC 306. He believed that it would be the perfect gift to give the fans following a high-octane Noche UFC. But not everything goes as planned!

Meanwhile, the interim heavyweight champion has been calling out Jones ever since he won the fight against Sergei Pavlovich. It was indeed the logical match to make. The three fighters went to and fro on social media, and Aspinall continuously claimed that Jones was doing nothing but dodge the fight. He even claimed, “He [Jones] wants the easy fight, Stipe [Miocic], for now.”

As soon as ESPN released the announcement on Instagram, the fight fans took to the comments section to reveal their thoughts. The community was split between talks of the event being a fight between the MMA GOAT (Jones) and the UFC heavyweight GOAT (Miocic). The GOAT vs. GOAT is something that could add to Jones’ legacy as he nears his retirement. However, it was ‘Stone Cold’s age that pulled the fight fans back from excitement. Let’s see what they had to say.
Is it Stipe Miocic’s turn to pull out of the Jon Jones bout at UFC 309?
The fight fans don’t seem to want to see Jones fight Miocic. They claim that ‘The Silencer’ hasn’t fought for a very long time and his age would play against him. After all, he has just turned 42 in August. One of the fans claimed, “This fight is not happening.”

Some of the fans point out the possibility of Miocic pulling out of the fight owing to an injury. Why? Well, that seems like the only scenario that’ll ensure Jones’ fight with the ‘Honey Badger’. One of the fans wrote, “Imagine if Stipe pulls out and Aspinall is the replacement.. Please MMA GODS.” Another fan commented, “Hopefully Stipe pulls out and we get what we really want.”
Meanwhile, a few others made it sound like a piece of breaking news. One comment read, “BREAKING: Stipe is injured. Fight will take place in another year from now!” Another fan added, “Breaking: Stipe is out due to an injury Tom aspinal will replace stipe.”
As the fight fans rallied behind the hopes and prayers of the fight getting canceled and Aspinall finally getting the chance to fight Jones, some fans pointed out that it was “The fight nobody wants to see.” On top of that, one of the fans seemed to believe that the only people who were interested in the fight were the UFC head honcho and the fighters involved. The comment read, “No one wants this besides Dana, Jones, and Stipe. We want Jones vs the interim champ Tom Aspinall.”
