Team Eagle and the American Kickboxing Academy share strong bonds that seemingly run across national borders. The kind of relationship Khabib Nurmagomedov has with the coach, Javier Mendez, and fellow UFC fighter, Cain Velasquez, is a strong one indeed. When the former lightweight champion visited the USA, he found support and friendship at the AKA gym. Without a doubt, this led to a friendship that was bound with immense respect and boatloads of jokes.
Recently, Nurmagomedov decided to give Velasquez a surprise. He video-conferenced the coach, who thought of surprising ‘Cardio Cain’. However, the decision seemed to be a bad one for Mendez. Velasquez and ‘The Eagle’ joined forces and teased the coach. Undeniably, the recording of the incident found its way to social media platforms. It was only natural for Mendez to realize that it was indeed a bad move for him.

The coach at AKA gym recently took to Instagram and shared a video of Nurmagomedov surprising Velasquez with a video call. Without any delay, Mendez defended himself and claimed that McDonald’s was, in fact, a good choice. Furthermore, when Velasquez chimed in and teased Mendez that he was wasting time at McDonald’s coffee, it simply led him to claim that it was faster than a minute. The duo continued to pick on the coach. “What do you mean? I get it! Don’t laugh at me! Come on. Hey, this is good coffee. It’s good coffee,” exclaimed Mendez.
Furthermore, Nurmagomedov touched another one of the coach’s buttons when he called him an ‘old coach’. “What old coach? What are you saying, ‘old coach’? I’m not an old coach. You crazy guy… I’m a young coach!,” he responded.
Mendez shared the video on Instagram and revealed his regret. He wrote, “@officialcainvelasquez got a special call today from the @khabib_nurmagomedov bad move on my part connecting them because they both started picking on me.” Moreover, the former lightweight champion also showed his love for Mendez and Velasquez as he shared the incident on IG story.
