The UFC is going through a precarious time as it prepares for the proceedings of the class-action antitrust lawsuit. The lawsuit was filed back in 2014 but has now gained acceptance. Meanwhile, a recent claim from litigation attorney Rob Maysey has revealed that Dana White and his promotion offered former fighter Cung Le a big-money contract. Moreover, it was just months after the lawsuit was filed.
Cung Le was predominantly recognized as a stand-up fighter, renowned for his remarkably unconventional striking techniques. He fought in the UFC from 2011 to 2014 as a middleweight and racked up a record of two wins and two losses. However, he was also one of those fighters who was involved in the filing of the lawsuit against Dana White’s promotion. Now, in a recent interview, his attorney opened up about an unusual offer from the UFC.

Rob Maysey, along with his client Cung Le, appeared in an interview with ‘MMA Uncensored’ to talk about the lawsuit on the UFC. He stated that the headlines, when the case was filed in 2014, said that there were multiple ex-UFC fighters who wanted to file charges on Dana White’s promotion. Maysey said, “When we filed a suit, the headlines were almost uniformly ‘Former UFC Fighters Filed Suit Against the UFC.'”
However, what people don’t know and what irritated Maysey was the fact that the UFC offered Cung Le a 6-figure contract. It was just a few months after the lawsuit was filed. “Cung Le actually got a six-figure fight offer in March of 2015, which is after we filed the suit,” said the attorney. But that did not excite Cung Le.
The ex-UFC star declined the UFC’s offer
The 9-3 fighter was one of the fighters who filed the lawsuit against the world’s biggest MMA promotion. It meant that things would have looked weird if he had gone ahead and accepted what the UFC offered him. Regardless of the fact that he was still under contract, Le didn’t accept the 6-figure contract.

Maysey further stated, “He turned that down because he didn’t want it to, sort of, the optics of it would look weird if Cung was suing the UFC on behalf of all these fighters and was still taking fights.”
Maysey further mentioned that Cung Le didn’t like the way it would have affected his position among the fighters that he was representing. As a result, he decided to turn it down. “He didn’t like the way it looked, so he turned it down.”

Cung Le is one of the biggest Asian icons in the history of MMA. He not only gained fame in the sport but also made his name in the movie industry as well. However, he was not a fan of the UFC using improper strategies with regard to the treatment of the fighters. We will wait and see how the lawsuit turns out for both parties in the days to come.
