Fans, pundits, and journalists were all waiting to see what the hype around Kai Asakura was about when he was placed in a title fight main event on his debut. But as fate would have it, the bright lights of the UFC were too much to handle as Alexandre Pantoja dispatched the Japanese sensation with a display as dominant as we’ll ever get to see, as Joe Rogan would go on to make a confession about the fight later.

During a recent discussion on the UFC 310’s main event on his podcast, Joe Rogan believes that after Alexandre Pantoja’s recent showcase, he might just be in the conversation for the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. The 57-year-old claimed that despite a few notable moments, Asakura stood no chance at all. It is safe to say that being a former 2-time Rizin bantamweight champion doesn’t necessarily mean fighters can be ready to fight on another level when they step inside the Octagon.

“Alexandre Pantoja, who might be the best pound-for-pound fighter alive. He’s the flyweight champion [and] he fought this dude, Kai Asakura, from Japan, who’s a f***ing assassin, and Pantoja just ate him alive,” Joe Rogan told guest Bert Sorin on the #2242 JRE episode“He [Pantoja] got caught with a couple of good shots, too. Couple of good knees to the body. You know, Kai Asakura is a really good fighter, but the level was just different. Like Pantoja just, he strangled him.”

Rogan would express astonishment with Alexandre Pantoja‘s speed in his strikes and in his takedown attempts, which was the highlight of his performance that night. “But it’s just the way he did it. He was f***ing him up on the feat, f***ing him up everywhere. He was just pushing him and this like, insane pace,” the UFC color commentator further stated.

Having witnessed fighters like Demetrious Johnson and the recent dominant showing of Alexandre Pantoja, Rogan made another confession about the 125-pound brawlers. Let’s see what he had to say.

Joe Rogan claims flyweight fighters are “pitbulls”

Alex Pereira is a beloved fan favorite because he lives up to his size and his weight class. He’s a knockout machine, and that’s what fans expect from heavy fighters. But when it comes to technicality, split-second moves, and offense, the 125fers have no competition. Joe Rogan believes this is what makes the flyweight fighters special. Their dog mentality and fast-paced bouts often give the 57-year-old and his commentary partners a tough time when they’re cage side.

“Those little guys fight, like, they fight like pitbulls. Just like wild scrambles where they’re moving so fast,” Joe Rogan added. “You’re trying to call the fight… Me and Daniel [Cormier] were talking about it during the commentary, like we have to recalibrate our brains because you’d go from a heavyweight fight to a flyweight fight. Like, woah!”

The fighter with the most title defenses in the UFC flyweight division, not named Demetrious Johnson, is Alexandre Pantoja. The Brazilian ace now wants to prove that he’s the greatest flyweight ever, calling out ‘Mighty Mouse’. Rogan loves that idea, but the former UFC and ONE champion claims he’s done with fighting because he’s got nothing left to prove.

But with many fans expressing interest, PPV buys may not be a problem, which was the reason Dana White lost faith in ‘DJ’ back in the day. Meanwhile, let us know your thoughts on Joe Rogan’s claim about the whole new level that fighters in the UFC operate at in the comments down below.
