UFC women’s flyweight Joanne Calderwood has taken a dig at fellow flyweight fighter Lauren Murphy for her title loss.

Murphy had defeated Calderwood via a split decision at UFC 263 to earn her shot at the flyweight gold against Valentina Shevchenko. However, the latter completely dominated the fight and destroyed ‘Lucky” in the fourth round of the bout at UFC 266

Recently, in an interview with Ariel Helwani, Calderwood shared her disgust over Murphy’s performance. She said, “I’m hoping our paths do cross (with Valentina Shevchenko). I feel like Lauren Murphy. She scraped that win from me, and then she went out and did that performance.”

“At least go out on your sword. Yeah, I know it was a close fight, but that was your one chance. Go out there and take it to the champ. For me, watching it as a fan, I was like, there’s nothing really happening here. I know Valentina’s a calculated killer, but you can at least go out there and make it exciting. Die on your sword.”

Joanne Calderwood, who sits at #5 in the division, is fresh from her loss at UFC 263. She will look to maintain her spot with a win over the high-flying #10 ranked Taila Santos, who is on a three-fight winning run.

Joanne Calderwood vs. Taila Santos: A spot in the top 5 is at stake

Joanne Calderwood has an amazing professional fighting record of 15-6 under her name. Before arriving in the UFC, ‘JoJo’ was undefeated. However, the Scottish female fighter couldn’t find much success in UFC.

Santos will look to use her three-inch reach advantage over Calderwood to secure a huge win over a UFC veteran and propel herself to the upper echelon of the 125 lbs rankings.

Even though the Brazilian possess some good knockout out power, it won’t be easy to finish ‘Jojo’, as she has zero knockout losses in her career. However, Santos can rely on her ground game to have an advantage.
