Joe Rogan has been quite vocal about his love for bowhunting. The JRE host believes that there’s a different kind of thrill about being in the wild with a bow and arrow. He often finds it hard to describe the feeling when people ask, ‘Why does he like hunting?’, as it is simply an activity that, apart from the trill itself, acts as a source of sustenance for the UFC commentator and comedian. So would he ever use PEDs to help him be a better bow hunter? Well, that’s a question that the JRE host answered in a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience.

Speaking to fitness educator and entrepreneur Derek Munro of More Plates More Dates, Rogan talked about beta blockers and how they help archers by slowing down the heart rate and lowering blood pressure. It blocks the effects of adrenaline and other hormones. This led the guest to wonder if Rogan also uses it while he is out hunting, to which Rogan revealed that he never actually used beta-blockers in his life.

He said, “I thought about doing it once. I even asked my doctor about it, and he was gonna get it for me. But I was like, I don’t wanna cheat. Like, half of the bowhunting thing is about being able to keep your s–t together. And if you could just do it, like if I could just shoot at a deer the way that I shoot at a target, I don’t think it will be the same.” This led Munro to label Rogan as a purist who liked the raw version of the sport – a statement that the UFC commentator agreed to.

The JRE host further added in JRE #2239 that controlling the adrenaline rush is a major part of bow hunting. The discipline of managing your mind is what makes it hard to do, and if he makes it easier for him, he will stop enjoying the sport. The UFC commentator said, “I don’t want it to be easier. It’s f—–g hard to do, and that’s literally why I like it. Like, if I could take a dr-g that would make it easier to do, I don’t think I would like it.” It definitely looks like Joe Rogan truly loves the raw nature of the sport. However, the important question is – were discipline and the thrill of bow hunting the only reasons the UFC commentator took to the activity?

When Joe Rogan revealed the real reason behind picking up hunting

In a previous episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the UFC commentator revealed the real reason to actor and comedian Russell Brand about why he began hunting. According to Joe Rogan, he is not a supporter of factory-farmed meat and finds it to be ‘disgusting’; as a result, he did not want to be a part of it. Thus, he decided to hunt for his own meat, with a bow and arrow, no less, where many hunters use rifles or firearms.

Being a martial artist and someone who is physically active, Joe Rogan needs constant sources of protein. We know that he raises his own chickens, so his eggs and white meat are taken care of. What about red meat? Well, Joe Rogan mentioned that elk is his favorite animal to hunt. This is due to its nutritional value, minimal fat content, and the tremendous amount of meat it can produce. He further added that hunting was incredibly ‘spiritual’ to him. However, it forced Brand to admit that he would never be able to hunt because he had too much empathy, and would be unable to live with the consequences of taking an animal’s life.

To change Brand’s opinion regarding the game, Rogan explained what happens in his thoughts during hunting. He suggested that the elk may endure violent deaths, such as being devoured by wolves. Furthermore, in instances where an animal survives after being gravely injured, it definitely spells doom for the animal that is already suffering. As a result, Rogan compared hunting to “dipping your toe into the natural world.” Well, it definitely looks like the JRE host loves the activity of self-sustenance through hunting for his own meat.
