Dustin Poirier‘s fight against fellow lightweight Justin Gaethje back in 2018 went down as one of the most violent and entertaining fights in the history of the promotion. While Poirier did come out victorious in the fourth round, putting an end to an extremely entertaining back and forth, fans were eventually left asking for more.
Now, after years of demanding a rematch by fans, rumors around the fight have started doing the rounds yet again. Especially after Gaethje’s recent win, it looks like fans might finally get to see these two have a go at each other once more. Despite it being mere speculation as of now, Poirier’s latest social media post just added more fuel to the fire. In what appeared to be a cryptic post, ‘The Diamond’ shared a clip of his fight against Gaethje, which drew reactions from supporters and even fellow American Top Team trainee Jorge Masvidal.

Sharing a fan edit of his fight from 2018, Poirier appeared to have taken a jibe at ‘The Highlight’. The clip displayed the extent of the damage he dealt Gaethje, which was followed by his caption, #ElDiamante and #PaidInFull.

Fans of the 34-year-old assumed that he was teasing a possible rematch and expressed their desire to see it in the comments. Welterweight Jorge Masvidal too joined in to share his support for Poirier.

His supporters thronged the comment section, expressing their wish to see them run the fight back once more.

A fan demanded Poirier receive a title shot soon.

One individual pointed out how Poirier was one of the rare fighters to make Gaethje struggle.

The main event that took place in April 2018 saw the two contenders square up in what many felt would be an entertaining bout; and entertaining it definitely was as the crowd got to experience a fight that people still chose to go back to every once in a while.

As expected, Gaethje’s leg kicks played a big part in the fight. Hurting ‘The Diamond’ multiple times, he even went on to wobble him once. Ultimately, despite getting hurt, Poirier displayed his grit and managed to finish the fight in the fourth with a flurry of strikes.
