The entire UFC community was eagerly waiting for the bout between Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira at the co-main event of UFC 288. The winner among the two contenders would face the lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev. However, due to an undisclosed injury, ‘Do Bronx’ withdrew from the fight. After his withdrawal, things took an unexpected turn for Dariush. He was training hard for the bout, as it could take him to the title shot.

With the bout’s cancellation, his path to the title shot has reached a roadblock again. UFC president, Dana White, confirmed that Oliveira and Dariush won’t fight at UFC 288. White made it clear in a press conference recently that he is engaged in discussions with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby to come up with an exciting matchup for the co-main event. At the moment, Makhachev and Dariush’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has come up with a viable solution to all the chaos going around.

Abdelaziz took to his Twitter handle and detailed how things might turn out in the future. He wrote, Just to be clear, anyone who is ahead of @beneildariush in the rankings and didn’t have a fight turned him down, here is the plan Beneil will fight Oliveira June 6th, he will smash him and after that fight Islam for the title. Any of these cheerleaders out there talking sit back.

The UFC boss made it clear that, like the rest of the MMA fans, he too wishes to see a bout between the top two lightweights in the near future. Even though the bout between Dariush and Oliveira is canceled for now, it might take place at a later date. The tentative date given for their next match is June 10th, according to Dariush. However, it might change to June 6th, as mentioned by the UFC manager. There is no official confirmation regarding the same. He has not signed any contract regarding the same.

After Oliveira pulled out of the bout, rumors spread that Dariush would fight Dustin Poirier next. Even though Dariush wanted to fight Poirier for a long time, ‘The Diamond’ was not ready to fight Dariush. Even now, instead of facing Dariush, ‘The Diamond’ is engaged in discussions with Gilbert Burns for a potential fight despite his aspirations for gaining a title shot at 155. This might have triggered Abdelaziz and as a result, he came up with a tweet that confirms the bout between Dariush and Oliveira.

Nevertheless, the #4 ranked lightweight proved that he is willing to face anyone in the division.

Dariush was willing to step up to the scale to face this fighter on short notice

In a recent tweet, the UFC featherweight Arman Tsarukyan showed his respect to Beneil Dariush for agreeing to fight with him at UFC 288 on short notice. A clash against the #8 ranked Tsarukyan and #4 ranked Dariush would have enticed the MMA community. Tsarukyan wanted to replace Oliveira at UFC 288. Nonetheless, UFC was not interested in the matchup and entirely scrapped the idea. Moreover, this might indicate that Dana White is saving Dariush for a bout against Oliveira in the future.
