Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira is the current light heavyweight champion of the UFC and one of the most fearsome strikers on the roster. The former Glory Kickboxing champion took on Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 and won the fight via KO in the second round. Pereira is one of the hardest strikers in the UFC but is constantly adding new dimensions to his game. In his latest podcast, Rogan gave the fans an insight into the new tricks the Brazilian is adding to his game.

While speaking to Bo Nickal, the 56-year-old UFC color commentator pointed out how Pereira has worked on his defense. He said, “His kickboxing is so f…ing dangerous that every fight starts on the feet. When you have a guy that’s a two-division Glory world champion that just knocks people into other dimensions. He doesn’t seem like he is getting better at it. But at least now he is good at defending. Guys, take him down. He defends, he survives, doesn’t get completely exhausted. And then the next round he is standing back up again. “

Pereira is one of those rare fighters who rose to success in the UFC in a very short period. The Brazilian is already a two-division champion with his eyes set on a third. Reports suggest that ‘Poatan’ wants to move to the heavyweight division. Will the 36-year-old make a switch to a third division in the UFC?

Will Alex Pereira make a move to the heavyweight division?

It’s becoming more and more common to see fighters switch to different weight classes in the UFC. However, Alex Pereira is a different breed altogether. Pereira initially started in the middleweight division and stands at 1-1 against Israel Adesanya for the middleweight title. He then made a switch to the light heavyweight division in pursuit of winning his second title. The Brazilian first took on Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291 and won the fight via decision.

His impressive victory won him a title fight against Jiri Prochazaka at UFC 295. The 36-year-old dominated the fight and ended it via knockout in the second round, thus claiming the light heavyweight title.

Now, the two-division champion reportedly wants to add another title to his cabinet and wants to move to the heavyweight division. The talk of the town is that a heavyweight matchup is in the works between Pereira and interim HW champ Tom Aspinall. Recent cryptic social media posts from the pair also suggested this possibility.
