Can Armen Petrosyan defy the odds and hand Sharabutdin Magomedov his first career loss?

The bout between Armen Petrosyan and Sharabutdin Magomedov for UFC 308 is truly one of the most anticipated fights in the card. The fans at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE, would surely be on the edge of their seats as ‘Shara Bullet’ and ‘Superman’ collide in the Octagon on October 26th.

However, the Russia-born fighter will be facing his toughest challenge yet against the undefeated 14-0-0 Sharabutdin Magomedov. But it surely won’t be an easy task to face an undefeated star when one has already tasted defeat in his career. And the Armenian-Russian has tasted it multiple times in his pro-MMA career so far. How many times has Armen Petrosyan lost?

Armen Petrosyan has an MMA record of 8-3-0, with two of those losses being in the UFC, while the third came when he was a part of the AMC Fight Nights. His first loss came on June 18, 2021, at AMC Fight Nights 102. During his match against 8-5-1 Hasan Yousefi, Petrosyan was knocked out in the very first round, just 1 minute and three seconds into the fight.

His second loss came on July 9, 2022, at UFC Fight Night: Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev. The Armenian-Russian went one-on-one against Caio Borralho in a losing effort that ended with a unanimous decision win for the #5 ranked UFC middleweight. Petrosyan’s third and final loss so far came in his last fight against Brazilian grappler Rodolfo Vieira.

Although the two were booked to face at UFC Fight Night: Almeida vs. Lewis back in 2023, Petrostan pulled out after falling ill backstage during the event. As a result, the duo were booked to face off in 2024 at UFC Fight Night 236 on February 10. However, Petrosyan lost the fight after Vieira caught him in an arm-triangle choke with seconds remaining in the first round. With just 12 seconds remaining, the Armenian-Russian fighter tapped out.

With eight wins under his belt, ‘Superman’ has been a promising prospect in the Dana White-led promotion. With five wins coming through KO and TKO’s, Petrosyan would be looking forward to honing his striking skills further under the tutelage of striking coach Artem Leven in the American top team.

He is also a Muay Thai specialist who trains in the academy where greats like Luis “Sapo” Santos, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, Denis “Super Korean” Kang, and many more have trained. So one can rest assured that Armen Petrosyan is surely being trained by the best of trainers and will only enhance his skills. With a significant strike defense of 56%, he can be a threat to ‘Shara Bullet’ as he can also strike with an accuracy of 52%. With 5.69 significant strikes landed per minute, Arman Petrosyan is truly a threat in the UFC.

Currently, RCC fighter Afandi Asipov is helping Arman Petrosyan prepare for his fight against Shara Bullet by joining his camp until the fight.
