Current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski sought to train with Arman Tsarukyan recently. Tsarukyan fought Islam Makhachev at ‘UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Oleinik’ in 2019. He was able to go toe-to-toe with the current lightweight champion. Volkanovski is set to take on Makhachev at UFC 284. But, Tsarukyan turned down the Aussie Fighter’s offer.

Makhachev has had a dominant run as he became the world champion. His fight with Alexander Volkanovski is apparently a much-awaited clash. It will be the biggest match for the featherweight champion.

‘The Great’ Volkanovski will also be adding weight to the clash. The lightweight title will be up for grabs and the bout is sure to be a big one. Meanwhile, Arman Tsarukyan shared the story about Volkanovski’s proposal in a recent interview.

Arman Tsarukyan turns down training offer from Alexander Volkanovski

Arman Tsarukyan has mentioned that he wasn’t actively training at the time when Volkanovski approached to train with him. He said, “He [Volkanovski] tried to connect me to his training camp. I refused because there was no point. I understood that while I was not actively training.” Tsarukyan also mentioned that he was offered good money. He added, “I do not think that it makes sense for me to be in his camp, even if there are dividends in the form of money.”

Tsarukyan also stated that he would have only gone to train if it was him replacing one of the fighters. “If I had preparation, if I understood that I would be replacing in Australia, then, most likely, I would go,” said Arman Tsarukyan.

Tsarukyan also mentioned that he was away from home for a considerable amount of time and had planned to take some rest. This is why he declined the offer to train with the Australian champion. Tsarukyan stated, “I had a vacation planned this year because I was not at home for 8 or 9 months.”
