Despite refusing to fight Colby Covington multiple times, UFC President Dana White has ensured that the fight between Covington and UFC Welterweight champion Leon Edwards will happen. With the success of the UFC 290 in the rearview, Covington is eyeing a title shot against Edwards at UFC 295.
Edwards, who defeated the Nigerian Nightmare Kamaru Usman twice and became the UFC Welterweight champion, didn’t want to fight Covington. His reason was simple – he didn’t believe that Covington deserved the title shot. However, UFC President Dana White always maintained that Covington deserved a title shot and that the fight would take place. Now, UFC Welterweight fighter Belal Muhammad has gotten himself into the mix and has made some comments about Edwards.

Muhammad, who is an old friend and teammate of the retired UFC Lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, fought Leon Edwards back in 2021 at UFC Fight Night. The fight ended on a disappointing note, as Edwards ended up poking Muhammad in the eye. The fight had to be stopped and declared a no-contest.

Now, after 2 years, it seems Muhammad wants to set things straight. However, Leon Edwards seems to be busy with the idea of a potential fight against Colby Covington. Therefore, Muhammad might have to wait it out a little more.
Too scared to face Covington? Fighter calls out Poirier and Chimaev as well
A lot of people are under the impression that Dana White might be backing Covington in his quest for the title shot. However, there seems to be no vested interest for the UFC President. The division champ seems convinced that Covington getting a title shot so easily comes from bias.
Covington, however, doesn’t seem to be rattled by these accusations. He recently said that he is hoping to fight Leon Edwards at UFC 295. However, that is not all that he said.

When Edwards was preparing to fight Usman, Covington was the backup fighter, who then became the no.1 contender after the fight as well. However, since the fight between Usman and Edwards happened, Covington was left with either Dustin Poirier or Khamzat Chimaev as his next opponents.
