Is Colby Covington truly ducking Ian Garry, or is Garry just stirring the pot for attention?

Ian Machado Garry is now fighting on UFC 310 instead of Belal Muhammad, and he was replaced by Colby Covington in the main event of UFC Tampa against Joaquin Buckley. As if this was not insulting enough for ‘Chaos,’ now there is a new revelation from Garry on why this happened and what conspired.

For Covington, the future has been uncertain ever since he was defeated by Leon Edwards. Since then, the welterweight has been searching for an opportunity to prove himself. This also included him being matched up against Garry. However, the Irishman has been pushed to fight Shavkat Rakhmonov. The change-up is not the only surprise here because Garry disclosed a secret about his and Covington’s unfinished matchup.

In a recent Instagram video, Garry said he had waited for Covington for almost a year but nothing happened. He disclosed the reason while showing the matchup post between Covington and Buckley. Garry said, “This shows that this c*** is ducking me. He has been ducking me for 7-8 months. I signed on for the baddest man in the division and this guy comes out of the shadows. He is a pu** he is a bi**. And one day I will get my hands on him.”

He even selected his winner and asked Buckley to defeat Covington. He said, “Joaquin Buckley, I am behind you 100% of the way go out and put that man to sleep. Please and thank you. Do it for me.”

The feud between the former interim champ and Garry is not news. it turned ugly and personal, as almost all of Colby’s last few feuds, when he dragged Garry’s wife Layla into the mix. A barrage of back and forth and tasteless comments later, Covington has been picked to fill in for Garry while the latter fights for the #1 contender spot at 170 lbs.

The welterweight division experienced some chaos when Belal Muhammad pulled out of his scheduled fight with Shavkat Rakhmonov for UFC 310. Many fighters threw their name into the mix including Covington, Garry, and Buckley. Even though Machado is speaking up against Covington, he did show interest in fighting Rakhmonov instead of Kamaru Usman. He said, “There’s Shavkat [Rakhmonov], 18-0. I’d love to get my hands on him. I’ve nothing but respect for him, but I wanna be the guy to take his 0, and I know I can do it”.

‘The Future’ has finally got his wish granted while he has asked for another wish of Buckley defeating Covington. Surprisingly, Henry Cejudo thinks that this might happen as well.

Cejudo believes Joaquin Buckley might win against Covington

During the ‘Pound 4 Pound’ podcast with Kamaru Usman, ‘Triple C’ did not seem confident of Covington’s victory against Buckley. Cejudo explained, “The style of Colby Covington, that dude is so predictable now. And the fact that they’ve seen him lose time and time again, whether it’s with Leon Edwards or yourself like it’s there. Once you stop Colby’s takedowns dude, things will fall into place. And look at how Joaquin covers distance bro. I’m high on this kid. This kid is dangerous, Kamaru. I can see Colby Covington losing via stoppage man, to a guy like Joaquin Buckley. I truly do believe that.”

He also praised Buckley on his skills saying that he was vicious and explosive in his fighting style. He was able to cover a lot of space and ‘new Mansa’ will make sure Covington has his hands full. It would be a monumental feather in the cap for Buckley if he could defeat Covington before the final bell. He already has an impressive 14 knockouts in his career so, it’s hard to argue the possibility. It will be fascinating to see if Covington can keep Buckley on the ground when grappling comes into the scene.

The 36-year-old is at the twilight of his career while the 30-year-old former middleweight Buckley is undefeated with 5 fights after making welterweight his stop. So do you think he can keep Garry’s wish and defeat Covington?
