“I will fight Whittaker eventually, then I will take revenge for everyone,” said Khamzat Chimaev after Robert Whittaker defeated Ikram Aliskerov at UFC Saudi Arabia. The undefeated Chechen was supposed to fight Whittaker on June 22, in Riyadh. However, ‘Borz’ had to pull out of the match as he was suffering from an undisclosed illness, and Aliskerov had to come up on short notice to fill the gap. ‘Reaper’ knocked out Aliskerov in the very first round to turn the tables of his career and it appears that this has induced the promotion to reschedule Whittaker’s clash with Chimaev.

Khamzat Chimaev has repeatedly stated that he would like to fight for the title; however, he has one obstacle in his path, and its name is Robert Whittaker. Dana White finally gave Chimaev the chance to go for the 185 lbs gold, but he would now have to go through ‘Reaper’ first. Whittaker’s win against Aliskerov was crucial for him, as this was his second consecutive victory against a ranked opponent and this has brought him back to the title picture.

If Whittaker wins his battle against Chimaev, it would guarantee a title shot for the former middleweight champion. Interestingly, it was ‘Reaper’ who asked Dana White to schedule his fight against Chimaev. “[Khamzat] Chimaev is a hard fight. He’s obviously a big draw, especially over there in Abu Dhabi…and I think the UFC story-wise wants to see Chimaev get a shot at the champion. They want to see Chimaev up at the top of the ladder…But I love disrupting their plans, I love derailing their stories. That’s why I took the fight, you know, I asked for the fight.”

The ‘Reaper’ has expressed an interest in taking the middleweight title for himself and is planning to derail Chimaev’s hype train. Regardless, this demand by Whittaker to fight Chimaev has been appreciated by the MMA community as they demand another BMF belt for the Australian native.

A new BMF champion on the cards in the shape of Robert Whittaker?

Starting off, Robert Whittaker is one of the nicest people in the division, as he rarely has any beef with any of the fighters. Interestingly, Whittaker’s career was on a downturn after he was defeated by Israel Adesanya twice but a victory against Paulo Costa has brought him back to the title picture and a fan seems to be excited to witness another Bobby era, “Bobby is such an amazing person, but also crazy good fighter.”
