Is Conor McGregor justified in demanding a fight after Chandler vs. Oliveira was set for UFC 309?

“You are the most unreliable being to have ever graced mixed martial arts, so what am I gonna do? I’m gonna fight Charles Oliveira,” said Michael Chandler through his Instagram handle as he called out Conor McGregor for being sloppy on his comeback. So is it true that Chandler is fighting Oliveira? The news appears to be true as it was announced by the UFC CEO Dana White Barstool Sports on Friday night, however, the official announcement is yet to be made. In the light of the situation, the former UFC double champ has come forward to call out injustice.

Oliveira and Chandler’s fight is about to happen at the Madison Square Garden on November 16th at UFC 309. Their rematch will be the co-main of the event as per the UFC CEO. Does this mean, a fight between him and Conor McGregor is officially ruled out? Well, not exactly but before that let us have a look at what the former dual-weight champion has to say.

After three years of hiatus due to a shin bone injury, Conor McGregor was supposed to fight against Michael Chandler at the UFC 303 but the fight gods had different plans from the combat sports stars as that fight was canceled due to ‘Mystic Mac’s toe injury. Months after the UFC 303 fallout, rumors shrouded the internet that McGregor vs. Chandler will be scheduled at UFC 310 in December but the reality might be a bit different.

Why, Well that’s because of the fact that Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira are about to run their battle once again as Conor McGregor’s comeback appears to be nowhere close.  As soon as Conor McGregor got the news, he took to his X handle to callout Michael Chandler and demanded a date from the UFC CEO, “Chandler saw that takedown getting stuffed and mauled and officially dipped.”

He further added, “Little Fat Pu**y. I’m at the hard rock hotel Florida for the bare knuckle tonight. Got tested earlier today by DFSI. Give me my fu**ing date!” McGregor’s frustration is palpable, however, one should not turn a blind eye toward Michael Chandler, who has been waiting for ‘Notorious’ for years now. Dana White has already stated that Chandler should move on from McGregor and that is what he is been doing recently.

Chandler took to his Instagram handle to announce, “I’m gonna fight Charles Oliveira. Why am I gonna fight Charles Oliveira? Number 1, it’s a bada** fight. Number 2, it’s a rematch. It’s a redemption story for me. The dude who already stole from me.” So, does this match between ‘Iron’ and ‘Do Bronx’ rule out the possibility of a potential McGregor match? Well, according to a UFC insider, it does not.

Chael Sonnen predicts the timeline of a match between Chandler and McGregor

Some of the fans within the MMA community believe that Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler should fight this year as the fans have waited enough for that fight to materialize. It must be noted that there were rumors floating around the bush that ‘Mystic Mac’ would return during the UFC 310, however, according to former UFC fighter and Hofer, Chael Sonnen, their fight will happen but not this year.

“Well, I think Conor is sincere that he would like to fight [at] 170 pounds [at the] T-Mobile Arena [in] December 2024 opposite Michael Chandler under the unified rules of the mixed martial arts. I believe him. I don’t think that’s a ploy for attention. I believe an inside scoop that I’m getting that the UFC wants all of those same things – they just want it in January in California,” said Sonnen.

Chael Sonnen predicted this even when he had no idea about a potential rematch between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira. The timeline is sitting perfectly with Sonnen’s assessment considering the fact that if Chandler fights during November at UFC 309 then he can show up during January against Conor McGregor.Regardless, whats your take on the hubbub?
