Anderson Silva is arguably one of the biggest draws in the history of martial arts. He finally found his fair share of recognition after the UFC announced that ‘The Spider’ will be getting inducted into the Hall of Fame. However, UFC commentator and renowned podcaster, Joe Rogan reiterated the quote of one of Silva‘s biggest rivals, Chael Sonnen, in a recent episode of ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast.

Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva is one of the best MMA exports from Brazil. He retired from mixed martial arts with a record of 34 wins and 11 losses. Silva holds the record for the longest winning streak in the history of the UFC with 15 wins, which spanned from 2006 to 2013.

Despite UFC president Dana White‘s beef with Anderson Silva, the UFC went ahead with their decision to induct one of the most iconic fighters into the Hall of Fame class. However, days before the announcement of the induction, Joe Rogan recalled the iconic quote that ‘The American Gangster’ delivered during his rivalry with ‘The Spider’.

Joe Rogan remembers Chael Sonnen’s comments on Anderson Silva

The 55-year-old had Shane Gillis on the #1956 episode of the JRE podcast. They talked about the best trash-talkers in the UFC. However, Rogan mentioned that Chael Sonnen was the original fighter who introduced trash-talking to the UFC. He mentions that ‘The American Gangster’ was the first fighter to introduce a professional wrestling “heel” (bad guy) persona in the promotion. The UFC commentator said, “He [Chael Sonnen] was the first guy that brought a pro-wrestling heel character to MMA with legit fighting skills …he’s an elite 185er, though.”

The JRE host then quoted Sonnen‘s most epic trash-talk on Anderson Silva after calling him out to fight. He said, “Anderson Silva, you absolutely suck!’ That was amazing. It’s hilarious.” This quote has remained one of the most iconic callouts in UFC as Chael Sonnen went on to become a legend for his incredible mic skills in the UFC.
