MMA is one of the most unpredictable sports in the world. Fighters can get sick, attain an injury, or miss weight, which can cancel scheduled fights at the last moment. And if such a cancellation happens in a highly anticipated PPV, it can severely affect the sales and profitability of the event. This is something that happened with UFC 288. The co-main event of UFC 288 was supposed to be a lightweight contest between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush.
However, Oliveria pulled out 3 weeks before the PPV due to an injury. Oliveira vs Dariush was one of the main attractions of the night, and its cancellation left UFC in troubled waters. Seeing the UFC 288 in jeopardy, middleweight fighter Paulo Costa has offered his services to fill up the co-main event spot.

Paulo Costa recently posted a tweet that intrigued all MMA fans and analysts. In the tweet, Costa proposed to fight at UFC 288. But it was not against an opponent that fans expected. Costa and newly-turned middleweight Khamzat Chimaev have been engaged in a war of words for the past few months now. From almost getting into a physical altercation to posting memes about each other, both Costa and Chimaev have left no stone unturned in this beef.
May 6 ppv event is in trouble. Jan blachowicz vs Costa could be the salvation. I go up 205 on all juice 🥤 . Let me know @ufc
— Paulo Costa ( Borrachinha ) (@BorrachinhaMMA) April 19, 2023
However, it was not Chimaev who Costa called out in his tweet. Rather, it was the former light heavyweight champion Jan Błachowicz. Costa offered to move to the light heavyweight division “on all juice” just to fight Błachowicz. “May 6 PPV event is in trouble. Jan blachowicz vs Costa could be the salvation. I go up 205 on all juice. Let me know @ufc”, ‘The Eraser’ wrote in his tweet.
Chimaev is eyeing the October card in Abu Dhabi to make his UFC return. On the other hand, Błachowicz is one of the top UFC fighters without a fight scheduled in the near future. This can be a reason why Costa called out Błachowicz instead of Chimaev.
Paulo Costa not interested in fighting Khamzat Chimaev?
Costa’s recent call-out has fans wondering about one thing. Is the Brazilian fighter skipping a fight against his rival Khamzat Chimaev? The answer is no. In a subsequent tweet, Costa mentioned that he can easily move back to the middleweight division to fight Khamzat Chimaev in October.

“Abs I come back to fight gourmet Chen Chen at October no worries”, Costa wrote. Costa intentionally or unintentionally misspelled Chechen (the region Chimaev is from) as Chen Chen. The tweet clearly means that Costa is still intending to settle his problems with Chimaev in the octagon.
