The undefeated Welterweight champion Khamzat Chimaev is undefeated but without a title. Since his last fight against Kevin Holland, the Swedish fighter has been desperate to make his return to the Octagon. Considering himself a top-selling act, he is confident that the UFC will have no problem lining up opponents for him with an eventual title shot against Leon Edwards.

Meanwhile, as the Welterweight champion, Edwards is coming off a double win against former division champion Kamaru Usman. Now, Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev have itches to scratch, and they want to fight each other. However, Dana White wasn’t on board with making this fight card and explicitly said it would not happen. In a recent press conference, Usman revealed the details.

Usman wants to fight Chimaev, and Chimaev called out Usman as well. The Swedish martial artist is ready to fight Usman at any weight class. Now, the catch is that Khamzat Chimaev, as officially confirmed by UFC President Dana White, will be a part of the Middleweight rooster. This means that Usman has to move up a weight class to fight Chimaev now. However, Usman had called him out at catchweight, which Dana White doesn’t believe in, leaving him with no option but to dismiss this ‘potential’ fight card at every press conference.

Recently, at a press conference, the Nigerian Nightmare was asked why his fight against the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev didn’t happen, and Usman spoke candidly.

I’m good. I’m just training. Falling back into love with my routine of training. I mean the last couple of years was just kind of chaotic, you know – here and there, here and there. But, falling in love with that routine again, but, just like you I thought I was gonna be fighting Khamzat too, so… you know, let’s see what happens.” started Usman.

When the reporter asked about the fight, the former champion said, “I mean there’s a lot of logistical things, not necessarily on my end… uh, why it didn’t happen. Like I said, I’m up here, you know I’m looking good, feeling good. I’m ready to fight.“.

With both fighters agreeing to the terms laid out, it’s just Dana White’s approval that is missing.

Khamzat, Usman and Edwards – Welterweight’s three kings

Kamaru Usman is on the first losing streak of his career, with both of his losses coming at the hands of the current Welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Now Edwards happens to be the next target for the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. However, with his move up to the Middleweight division, Edwards has one less threat to worry about.
