On Elon Musk’s fifth appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience (#2223), the podcaster and tech mogul sat to discuss topics ranging from the US presidential election to technology. After all, how can you not talk tech with the ‘modern-day Tony Stark’, Elon Musk? While discussing tech, Joe Rogan exposed a major government activity, suggesting that American citizens live with an ‘illusion of privacy’ at the hands of the government.

Rogan started by praising the Apple ecosystem for providing a seamless experience for users. However, Rogan revealed that despite this, he once had the urge to switch to Android. So why didn’t he? The reasoning, according to Joe Rogan, is that the government can easily compromise the signal messaging system in Android operating systems. In fact, the government may actually be snooping on the texts being sent by their citizens, according to the UFC commentator.

He said, “They can read anything. If all they need to do is have your phone number – the illusion of privacy is essentially out the window. And, uh, that should scare people more than it does—it really should. Because it’s like, who are these people that have access to all this stuff? And are they beyond reproach? Are these the most wonderful people, the most ethical, moral, and principled people that have ever existed, and they’ve been chosen to have access? No. No, it’s regular people. Regular people who happen to work for the government that make a decision like, ‘Elon Musk? Let’s look – see what that guy’s texting his friends. Let’s check it out.'”

Elon chimed in and verified the claim in the episode by saying, “If the government tries hard enough, they can read signal messages.” At this point, Rogan went all in, expressing concerns about his privacy being breached alongside millions of Americans. However, the only solution he could think of was almost using a brick phone all over again. “The alternative so you can get some wacky phone, some de-google phone that none of the apps work; it’s real sketchy your, GPS is f****d.”

True to their stances post-COVID-19, the duo expressed their trust issues with the government. However, Trump winning the elections laid a lot of Rogan’s and Musk’s apprehensions about the government to rest. Speculations are rife that Joe Rogan and Elon Musk might have swung the elections in Trump’s favor.

In the last two weeks of the election, Joe Rogan had Donald Trump, his running mate JD Vance and Elon Musk on JRE. A day before the election, Rogan came out with his endorsement of President-elect Trump, citing Elon Musk as his motivation to do so. According to Rogan, Musk ‘laid out what he thought was the most compelling argument he’ll hear in favor of Trump’, and agreed with him through and through.

Rogan’s interactions with Donald Trump, Vance, and Musk were mostly positive, with frequent praise for the President-elect. During his presentation, Trump tried to impress Rogan’s primary audience of young male listeners by discussing the elimination of the federal income tax, mixed martial arts, and life on Mars. The JRE appearance may have swung on-the-fence voters towards Trump, especially those who expected vice-president Kamala Harris to appear on the podcast.

During his address as the winning candidate, Trump’s good friend Dana White disclosed Rogan’s role in winning Trump the elections, just a day before the elections. This move might have made a real impact on the final result and proved the power of digital media over establishment media.
