ESPN analyst and reporter Laura Sanko has been dealing with the ire of the Irish fans. She had placed Conor McGregor in her list of top 5 fighters from the UK. Conor McGregor hails from Dublin, Ireland. The mistake made by Sanko was not acceptable to the Irish fans. They are now looking for an apology from the TV presenter for hurting Irish Nationalist sentiments. Sanko made a grave mistake in ESPN’s pre-UFC 282 weigh-in show when she misplaced Mystic Mac’s nationality. Laura Sanko has now come up with an explanation for what happened at the show.

She said he had knowledge about the difference between the Irish provinces in the UK and the independent ones. It was probably because of a mistake in communication because of the area of origin being mentioned as the “UK region“.

Laura Sanko gives out her side of the McGregor slip

Sanko explained her side of what had happened in reply to an Irish fan’s comment. The fan commented, “Apologise to the Irish People for your ignorance.” Laura Sanko replied saying, “Ugh..when they assigned us the list they said, “UK region” and someone else asked if we should include ireland and they said yes! “

She further explained herself saying, “I know the difference between Northern Ireland (part of the Uk) and Ireland ..but my understanding was we were including it geographically.”

Northern Ireland is a part of the United Kingdom. It is in the northeast of the Island of Ireland. Northern Islands thus are not a part of The Republic of Ireland, which is a separate country.

Mystic Mac comes from a suburb in Dublin, Ireland, called Crumlin. He was raised by his parents, Tony McGregor and Margaret McGregor. He has two siblings, sisters Erin and Aoife McGregor. McG is a proud Irish man. Fans often see him with his National flag after victories.

It’s okay to make mistakes. It is, however, a very different thing for a reporter like Laura Sanko, and that too on live television. Sanko is widely known across the UFC world.
