In the dark alleyways of combat sports and bodybuilding, the perennial question arises: which is superior, and who possesses greater strength? In recent times we have witnessed a number of bodybuilders challenging MMA fighters, asserting that their sheer size and weight would secure victory. However, in reality, things are more complicated than they look. Bodybuilders may indeed have an upper hand in terms of stature and size, but MMA fighters, regardless of their weight class, possess the ability to overcome any challenge thanks to their rigorous training regimens.

The controversy initiated by Bradley Martyn has spread throughout the entire bodybuilding and combat sports communities. In a recent video shared by Kelvin Gastelum, we could witness a bodybuilder challenging another MMA fighter. However, what happened after that?

The 31-year-old fighter recently took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to reshare an uncommon yet intriguing incident. He reshared a post by Patrick St. Pierre, in which the latter captioned the video as follows: “A Turkish bodybuilder claims that no 155 lb. guy could ever beat him in a fight, trained or not. A 4-4 MMA fighter shows him the reality.”

Kelvin Gastelum, in response to the video, asserted that it’s high time someone gave a fitting reply to the bodybuilders calling out the MMA fighters. He further stated that even featherweights can inflict massive damage on them, let alone the UFC champions.

He tweeted, ” Lmao someone let that bodybuilder calling out MMA fighters know that this featherweight could do the same to him, let alone UFC champions. All of these shots were legal in mma & they’re in a field. I think I saw a knee to the head at the end though .”

In the video, we witness a Turkish bodybuilder challenging a fighter smaller in stature than himself. However, as soon as the fight starts, the MMA fighter demonstrates why fighting still remains superior. The MMA fighter placed the bodybuilder in a choking position and then delivered elbow blows to the bodybuilder’s head. Soon enough, the scene turned bloody, with the bodybuilder nearly passing out.

Why martial arts will always have an upper hand over bodybuilders when it comes to fighting?

In a speculative confrontation between a bodybuilder and a combat artist skilled in the realms of stand-up and ground combat, martial artists consistently emerge triumphant, even when pitted against a behemoth of double their proportions in both mass and might. The inevitability of victory in such an encounter arises from the dearth of martial finesse.

Bodybuilders excel in physical power, but it’s just one part of combat. The potency of a punch or kick intricately involves foot rotation, flowing through hips and upper body, culminating in precise impact. This complexity extends to kicking techniques, rendering muscularity ineffective without the high-level technique for force generation.

Mastery demands flexibility and precise corporeal rotation for momentum. MMA fighters, despite less muscle mass, often outperform bodybuilders in striking prowess due to their adept use of corporeal rotation. The same applies to grappling, where MMA athletes, beyond raw strength, employ leverage, energy redirection, and weight manipulation to execute takedowns skillfully.
