While speaking with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, Gaethje spilled the beans on what he was actually looking forward to. The conversation began when he was asked about the main-event bout at 294. Consequently, Gaethje laid it straight: he was eying the prospective winner but not the bout. He said, “No, I won’t. All I care about is who wins. You know, If Makhachev wins, I am sure he is going to want to fight before Ramadan.”

He further quoted, “So I think you know, February-March, I am not sure when it starts. When does Ramadan start? It would be February, March, or April at the latest that he wants to fight again. He wants to fight again before that. And Charles, if he wins, I have no idea when he will fight.”

Gaethje’s words clarified that he wanted to face Makhachev prior to the Ramadan break. He also stressed Makhachev’s desire to engage him in combat before the break. Despite not knowing when the break would begin, he made his intentions known in that interview. Even though he was not interested in the match, he has his eyes on the victor.
