Just days after sharing a cold “Forged Irish Stout” with the “Hells Angels,” Conor McGregor seems to have taken up a new hobby — soccer. MMA media outlet ‘Championship Rounds’ recently posted a video of the Irishman showing off his aggressive side on the soccer field. In the first clip, McGregor can be seen fiercely lunging for a loose ball, diving into the tackle with his signature intensity.

Luckily for both the fighter and the player, none of them got injured during the fight. The former dual champion took to his X account to give an update about how he felt after being sloppy in the match. Let us take a look at what he had to say.

Conor McGregor gives an honest update after his soccer match

Currently waiting in the barracks for his comeback, McGregor took time to participate in a soccer game. While he did end up making some rash tackles everything was alright after the match. He tweeted, “Good game, fair challenges, nothing sloppy, no injuries. Up the Forge!”. He also tweeted, “All ball, ref!” by sharing one of the videos of the match.

Soon after, the UFC star took things further, wrestling his opponent to the ground—actions that were unsurprisingly called as fouls. McGregor was representing Black Forge FC in a Premier Division match against Harding FC, part of the United Churches Football League (UCFL), an amateur soccer league based in Dublin. Seeing the former UFC champion trying his hand at soccer shouldn’t be too surprising, given his history with the sport. Before switching to MMA, McGregor played for Lourdes Celtic’s youth team, a local football club in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland.

Growing up in Crumlin, Dublin, McGregor was passionate about soccer and spent hours honing his skills on the pitch. Lourdes Celtic provided him with an outlet to channel his energy, and he became known for his aggressive playing style and determination to win. Though his journey ultimately led him away from soccer and into combat sports, McGregor has often spoken fondly of his time in the sport and the lessons it taught him about teamwork, focus, and resilience. But why is he so interested in playing soccer? It seems he wants to help his cousin.

Conor McGregor has now shown his interest in starting a soccer team

For McGregor, soccer represents more than just a sport; it’s a link to his roots and a reminder of where his journey began. Whether on the pitch or in the Octagon, his passion and competitive spirit continue to define him. The former dual-weight UFC champion has shown interest in investing in the Irish Soccer League, inspired by his cousin Warren Davis’s success in winning the FAI Cup with Drogheda United last November. However, this potential move seems to have caused controversy, as Drogheda United has reportedly distanced itself from McGregor due to his legal woes.

Warren Davis, Conor McGregor’s cousin, remained on the bench during Drogheda United’s 2-0 victory over Derry City in the FAI Cup final at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium in November 2024. Though a bit belated, the former dual-weight UFC champion celebrated his cousin’s achievement at a restaurant.

Sharing several photos with family and friends on Instagram, McGregor captioned the post, “How much is it to buy a League of Ireland team? I might buy two.” Conor McGregor made it clear he wasn’t joking when he shared the total market value of all Irish soccer clubs, which amounted to just $27.99 million.

He captioned the post, “The whole f—in’ league. Lol. To Europe, we are all going.” However, his remarks may not have sat well with Drogheda United’s management, as their reaction to McGregor posing with the trophy appeared somewhat overblown. McGregor’s statement could potentially signal the end of his ambitions to return to the combat sports world. That said, what are your thoughts on ‘The Notorious’ and his recent actions?
