Can Charles Oliveira's 'dad strength' propel him to victory against Michael Chandler at UFC 309?

Charles Oliveira’s all-action fighting style has earned him a massive fan following in the UFC. The Brazilian’s UFC started out as a lightweight but embarked on a mid-tier featherweight run in 2012. However, with his move back up to lightweight in 2017, he went on spectacular run to the UFC title, disposing of top-tier opponents such as Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje as champion. Now, the former UFC lightweight champion is preparing for a bout with a man he defeated to claim the title, i.e, Michael Chandler at UFC 309.

‘Bronx’ in Portuguese means a poor neighbourhood, and Charles Oliveira was called ‘do Bronx’ by his contemporaries since he grew up in the favelas before becoming famous, winning admirers all over the world through his skill, tenacity, and modest nature. As legendary as Oliveira’s fighting career has been, he is as much a champion as a family man as he is a fighter. While Oliveira’s successes in the Octagon is well documented, few people know about Charles Oliveira, the family man. Let’s take a closer look at the former lightweight champion’s personal life and his children.

Prior to becoming a family man, Charles Oliveira had a shaky career in the UFC, racking up a 10-8-1 record. Charles Oliveira met his ex-wife Talita Roberta in 2014 after their shared love for BJJ and had tied the knot in 2014. In 2017, the couple welcomed their daughter, Tayla Oliveira, into the world. Becoming a father instilled a new-found drive in the Brazilian fighter, who then embarked on a legendary career at lightweight disposing the who’s who of the division, and winning the title in dominant fashion.

While he went through a rough patch in his marriage, eventually divorcing his wife, he remained a devoted father to his daughter. It was only after her birth in 2017 that Oliveira came into his own in the UFC and won the lightweight champion of his division. Despite being a dangerous force to be reckoned with, ‘do Bronx’ is doting father and often posts pictures of his daughter on his social media from time to time. Tayla too has her own Instagram page where she shares her moments of joy from her day-to-day life.
