Ever since their face-off at the UFC 288, fans have been waiting to see these two stars step into the octagon and settle the scores. Even before White’s announcement, there were rumors about this fight happening at UFC 292 in August. However, one key personality in this scenario was not aware of this development up until the last moment.

Ray Longo, considered one of the top coaches in MMA, trains and corners champion Aljamain Sterling. In a surprising turn of events, Shakiel Mahjouri, a prominent combat sports and pro wrestling interviewer at CBSSports, made a shocking revelation. He revealed in a tweet that Aljamain Sterling‘s coach, Ray Longo, was unaware of the fight until White’s announcement.

According to Mahjouri, he was on a call with Longo when the news of this fight came out. “Aljamain Sterling vs. Sean O’Malley set for #UFC292 on Aug. 19, per @DanaWhite. This is news to Sterling’s coach Ray Longo, who was coincidentally on the phone with me when the news broke.”

Later, he provided an update, stating that Longo was not aware that Sterling had agreed to this fight. “UPDATE | I followed up with Ray Longo, Aljamain Sterling’s coach, and Ray has no knowledge of Sterling agreeing to fight Sean O’Malley at #UFC292.”

In the corner of their minds, many MMA fans knew that O’Malley was getting his title shot on UFC 292. But who was it that revealed this news before the boss himself? It was none other than ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley himself.

While virtually appearing in an interview with Michael Bisping, O’Malley intentionally or unintentionally revealed his fight date. This was a few days prior to White’s announcement. Former UFC fighter, Mike Perry, was also a part of the interview.

‘Sugar’ replied in his signature style, saying “August 19th, after I knock out Aljamain Sterling, one of our brothers, we’ll party.” August 19th is the date when UFC 292 takes place.
