UFC champion Aljamain Sterling ignited the heat with his latest message to his challenger, Henry Cejudo, ahead of their scheduled fight at UFC 288.
The bantamweight champion, who looks to notch his third title defense, faces the biggest challenge of his career. ‘Funkmaster’, who flatlined TJ Dillashaw in his previous fight, faces the looming former two-division champion in the UFC 288 headliner on May 6 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. While he made it abundantly clear on more than one occasion that his future lies at featherweight, he also wants to secure his legacy at 135 lbs.
On the other hand, ‘The Messenger’ returns from a three-year-long layoff. The lengthy layoff didn’t deter his ambitions to come back and state his case for a crack at the gold. Expectedly, the tensions have soared as the inevitable clash draws near, also evidenced by their banter on social media pages. Likewise, the 33-year-old champion recently gave a warning to ‘Triple C’ as he added another layer to their ongoing feud.

The 22-3 record holder is oozing confidence after two successful title defenses. Further, he eyes a strong outing, banking on his ground game, which also helped him edge past Petr Yan and TJ Dillashaw. However, it’s worth noting wrestling is the area where Cejudo is an accomplished athlete.
Sterling is confident of beating Cejudo at his own game
Sterling informed Inside Fighting he envisioned a second-round win for himself. While he planned to get a feel for the fight initially, he revealed he intended to put pressure on Cejudo as the fight proceeded.

He continued and added, “Once I get the takedown secured, I just pound him. And either he gives up his neck for the submission or I pound him out.”
In the same interview, the Serra-Longo Fight Team representative mentioned he only had one or a maximum of two fights left in bantamweight. Afterward, he plans to challenge the featherweight division, after adding bulk to his frame and increased strength.
