Alexandre Pantoja’s win at UFC 301 hasn’t sat well with the fans! The UFC flyweight champion took on the number 10-ranked, Steve Erceg on the night. The Australian was granted the shot at the title with just 3 wins in the UFC, but his incredible knockout of Mat Schnell at UFC Vegas 87 in his last fight, highlighted the elite skills he possessed.

While the fight started off with a cautious approach from both men, Pantoja was finding it hard to deal with Erceg’s crisp striking and distance management. ‘The Cannibal’ did end up securing a takedown in the first round and landed some shots, but a scramble by ‘Astroboy’ saw him end the round on his feet.

The rest of the fight highlighted Erceg’s striking skills as he managed to constantly land his jab and throw elbows whenever Pantoja tried to close in. However, Pantoja’s takedowns were a factor throughout the fight as he managed to drag the Australian to the ground multiple times throughout five rounds.

However, the striking numbers were in Erceg’s favor as he constantly slid back and popped Pantoja with counters whenever the champion tried to blitz forward. But when he attempted to shoot takedowns of his own, it gave Pantoja the chance to fight back.

As such, the fight resulted in a unanimous decision victory for Pantoja as the judges felt he had done enough to secure the win. But the fans online didn’t agree with the decision as they blasted the champion and claimed Erceg was “robbed” of a win. Here’s a look at how the fans reacted.
