Alexander Volkov shocked the fighting community when he began to compete in M-1: Russian Selection, back in 2009. It doesn’t always happen that a heavyweight can manage and coordinate his attacks effectively. But that isn’t the case with ‘Drago’. His timings and battle IQ have been entertaining the fight fans for decades. But there’s one thing that has often left the fighting realm wide-eyed.
Volkov has a tendency to dwarf his opponents with his height and weight. Today, let’s take a dive into the heavyweight division and find out all about the Russian’s stature.
What is Alexander Volkov’s reach, weight, and age?

Weighing 258 pounds with a reach of about 80 inches gave ‘Drago’ an upper hand when it came to fighting other heavyweights. He has been dominating the Octagon in the heavyweight division with 38 MMA victories and just 10 losses to his name. On top of that, the 36-year-old Russian has won 24 of his fights via KO/TKO, and another 4 via submission. No doubt, his weight and reach put some immense power in his strikes. Of course, his skills in Tsu Shin Gen, Kyokushin Karate, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu played a vital role in his victories, as well.
His weight and reach have certainly helped Volkov secure his place as the #3 contender in the UFC heavyweight category. After all, he’s on a 4-fight win streak, with victories over fighters like Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Alexandr Romanov, Tai Tuivasa, and Sergei Pavlovich.
Confident in his skills and stature, Volkov also targeted the heavyweight champion, Jon Jones for a fight. Talking to the UFC back in 2023, ‘Drago’ said, “It would be really nice to share the Octagon with [Jones] one day and to get the honor to fight him in the Octagon. I’m not joking myself. I understand what my position is in the division. I know I have to still go through a lot of obstacles to get to Jon Jones, but when I get there and if I get there, I think our fight would be very competitive and I think I could really show him an interesting, competitive fight.”

How tall is Alexander Volkov?
Volkov is the perfect embodiment of a heavyweight mixed martial artist. He is the second tallest fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, measuring up to 6 ft and 7 inches. But if we consider the ones who are currently active, he is the tallest fighter right now. And when he stands next to his fellow heavyweights, one can see how massive Volkov actually is.
Do you remember when ‘Drago’ went up against Tai Tuivasa at UFC 293? Tuivasa himself measures about 6 ft and 2 inches, which is an average height in the western part of the world. However, standing next to Volkov, he was absolutely dwarfed. The same thing was repeated when Volkov faced off against Sergei Pavlovich in his last bout back in July 2024.

Coming to UFC 310, history would repeat itself as the 6 ft 4 inches tall Ciryl Gane would lock horns with Volkov. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the difference in their size. However, Gane has an extended reach of 81 inches, which really puts Volkov’s height advantage on the sidelines. Nevertheless, it would surely be a fight that could entertain the fighting community to the greatest extent.
What are your thoughts on the massive physique of the Russian heavyweight? Do you think Volkov can use his size to his advantage against ‘Bon Gamin’? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
