Surging Russian contender Alexander Volkov is headed to Saudi Arabia for an all-Russian fight against Sergei Pavlovich. ‘Drago’ will come into that fight with a lot of winning momentum by his side in the UFC’s main event in the Middle Eastern nation. But the fight’s this weekend and before that, we’ll take a peek into his UFC record.
Sergei Pavlovich came up short last time in the same way he defeats people – he got knocked out by Tom Aspinall. In an attempt to capture heavyweight gold, the fearsome former interim title challenger seems determined to make a return to the winning column. But does Alexander Volkov have the credentials to beat Pavlovich? Well, he’s had his fair share of losses, and hence, let’s take a look at that front.

Alexander Volkov’s notable defeats in UFC
Coming into the UFC with a professional record of 26-6, Alexander Volkov was already a vastly experienced combatant. But when he suffered his first loss against knockout kingpin Derrick Lewis, it proved that he wasn’t invincible. That fight took place in arguably the biggest UFC PPV event ever, UFC 229, when ‘Drago’ would get clocked with a flurry of punches in the third round.

Alexander Volkov’s second came one fight after losing to ‘The Black Beast’ when Curtis Blaydes would edge past him with a unanimous decision win. A similar outcome would take place against former title challenger Ciryl Gane, following which Volkov would suffer a first-round knockout loss to interim heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, in the latter’s fifth UFC outing.

These four losses are the only ones Alexander Volkov has suffered under the UFC banner, and if you haven’t already guessed, there are also upsides in not only his UFC but overall MMA record. Let’s take a deep dive into that, shall we?
Wins and record of UFC HW star
One of the biggest wins in Alexander Volkov’s UFC career has to be against former champion and legend Fabricio Werdum, where he knocked out the Brazilian ace. When it comes to KO wins in the UFC, ‘Drago’ has put many top-tier heavyweight fighters to sleep, including Walt Harris, Alistair Overeem, Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Alexander Romanov. Although he’s never had a winning streak of more than 4 fights in the UFC, he had a longer one, a 10-fight winning streak, before his advent in Dana White’s company.

When it comes to record-making statistics, in the 47 professional fights Alexander Volkov has competed in his whole career, 24 of those wins came via knockout, which is an outstanding piece of statistics. Meanwhile, only 4 fights have resulted in submission wins while nine came via decision. Despite his 10 overall MMA career losses, Volkov’s done pretty well for himself.
Well, the past is the past, and the future is what fans are eagerly waiting for. Both Alexander Volkov and Sergei Pavlovioch can be explosive when they want to. Will that be the case come this Saturday? We’ll have to wait and see how things go down in Saudi Arabia.
