The UFC world just witnessed the glorious victory of Alexander Volkov against Alexander Romanov at UFC Fight Night 221. Before the bout, Romanov was at 16-1 and Volkov’s record stood at 35 victories and 10 losses. The majority expected the bout to be a close affair. However, from the very beginning of the fight, the Russian fighter was aggressive and dominant over Romanov. One minute into the first round, Volkov was completely dominating the fight.

The Moldovan fighter was struggling to defend the straight punches and stabbing snap kicks of Volkov. The fight continued similarly for a while. Soon, Volkov laid down the finishing touches, and the referee had to intervene. This resulted in Volkov achieving a clear victory over Romanov within 2 minutes and 16 seconds into the first round. Basking in the glory of his recent victory, the Russian fighter didn’t forget to call out the fighter he wanted to face next.

Alexander Volkov wants Ciryl Gane for the next bout

In a recent tweet, MMA reporter Alex Behunin informed the UFC community that Volkov wants to clash against Ciryl Gane next. He wrote, I asked Alexander Volkov about a potential fight with Tai Tuivasa or a rematch with Derrick Lewis. He said he is interested but feels like the wins would feel less important because they are on losing streaks. Instead, he threw out Ciryl Gane.

 

From the tweet, it is transparent that “Drago” is looking for a worthy and tough opponent. At the moment, the aim of the Russian fighter is to go up against a big name in the promotion. Gane is already an established heavyweight, having squared off against Jon Jones for the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285 The bout became one of the Frenchman’s worst in the history of his fighting career.

“Bon Gamin” lost the bout within 2 minutes and 4 seconds into the first round. However, Gane is much ahead of Tai Tuivasa and Derrick Lewis. Tuivasa lost his last two bouts against Ciryl Gane and Sergei Pavlovich, and Lewis, too, became unsuccessful in winning his last three bouts.

The possibility of a clash between Volkov and Gane

 Volkov is undoubtedly rising high in his fighting career at this point in time. Before winning against Romanov, the Russian fighter squared off against Jairzinho Rozenstruik, where he finished his opponent in the very first round itself. However, the UFC community needs to wait to find out Gane’s response to Volkov.
