The UFC 284 featuring two renowned world champions, Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski is just around the corner. Many fans expect it to be a riveting match between two professionals in the game. Recently, the former lightweight champion and Makhachev’s coach, Khabib Nurmagomedov, announced his retirement from all forms of MMA, including coaching. Therefore, Makhachev will have to face his worst enemy without his best friend and guru by his side. Fans already assume this was a setback for Makhachev. However, Volkanovski believes that shouldn’t change the equation much.

Alexander Volkanovski is not concerned with anyone’s absence

The Australian native conveyed a sound message to his upcoming opponent in a recent interview with Fox Sports Australia. The current P4P king felt that Khabib Nurmagomedov has nothing to do with Makhachev‘s win once the Dagestani enters the Octagon. Therefore, his absence should not be mentioned as a handicap to the lightweight champion. Furthermore, Volkanovski expressed Makhachev was not a “real fighter” if he needed someone to look out for him inside the Octagon.

Volkanovski said, “they better not use it as an excuse once this is all done.” Referring to ‘The Eagle’s absence from the sidelines.

“At the end of the day, Makhachev will prepare and we’re going to fight.” “He doesn’t need someone to hold his hand.”

The UFC champion wants everyone to know that Makhachev is dependent on his legendary coach. But, no matter what, he’ll be alone in the Octagon. And that’s when Volk will land his strikes. However, Alexander Volkanovski knows that Nurmagomedov’s absence would make a significant difference to the match.

“So when my hand gets raised, that better not come up.” and concluded.

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired for his family

The Dagestani legend left UFC as a fighter, back in 2021 as the reigning UFC Lightweight champion. But, returned as a coach to continue the legacy of his father and trainer, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. However, the Russian grappling expert felt he needs to focus on his family back home. And put a rest to his MMA career. Once and for all. Because, Nurmagomedov has three children, who are the apple of his eye. All of them are still at a developing age and need their father by their side.

Therefore, fans can understand why Nurmagomedov made such a huge decision. Especially with Makhachev’s title clash against Volkanovski, right around the corner.
