Rather than being disheartened by the loss, ‘The Great’ spoke positively about the experience, expressing his excitement for the challenge and the opportunity to become a better fighter. He acknowledged the fact that he was the underdog in the fight, and many people thought he was crazy for taking it. However, he believed in himself and his ability to rise to the challenge.

“It was obviously always going to be a challenge. You know, there was a reason why I was the underdog. Everyone was thought I was crazy doing it, you know, (but) I knew I could do it.”

The Featherweight champ also said the exciting finish of the fight helped Volkanovski become popular as a dangerous fighter. “My stocks definitely still rose after that one, especially finishing the fight the way we did”, ‘The Great’ said.

Volkanovski vs Makhachev rematch

The fight itself was a close one, with both fighters going toe-to-toe for five intense rounds. Although Volkanovski ultimately lost by decision, he felt that he had done enough to win. He acknowledged that the fight could have gone either way. According to the man from down under, that’s what made it such an exciting and memorable battle.
