UFC legend Chael Sonnen has yet again made a bold prediction. And this time it’s a forecast that no one could have seen it coming for miles. In a recent video on his channel, the 45-year-old claimed that Middleweight champ Alex Pereira could possibly move up to challenge for the Light Heavyweight title. But as per the Hall of Famer, this depended on the outcome of the fight between Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill. ‘The American Gangster’ shared this wild forecast while talking about Pereira defending his title and a possible bout against Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.

Chael Sonnen feels Alex Pereira’s activity depends on Glover Teixeira vs Jamahal Hill

The Oregon-born proposed in the video a possible scenario where ‘Poatan’ wouldn’t spend much time in the 185 division. “I don’t think that you’re gonna have Pereira at 185 pounds for much longer.” mentioned Sonnen.

Sonnen also disclosed what he believed would happen if Teixeira was able to regain his title at 205. “I think Pereira’s involvement at 185 pounds has a lot to do with glover’s outcome this Saturday. If Glover wins on Saturday, becomes the world champion, I think you’re going to hear an announcement of Alex Pereira’s fight within two weeks. And it will be at 185 pounds.”

If the opposite were to happen, the 45-year-old believed that the middleweight division would end up wide open. “But if Glover doesn’t win, I think you’re going to hear an announcement of an Alex Pereira fight somewhere soon within the next two weeks, but its going to be at 205 pounds. That division of 185 is going to be left wide open,” claimed Sonnen.

Another interesting point here is the relationship between Pereira and Teixeira. As fans would know, the duo share great chemistry outside as well as on the mats.

Chael Sonnen’s thoughts on the Middleweight division scenario

Sonnen, who himself has been a title contender during his career; felt that the Middleweight division would end up with a vacant title. Ultimately, as per Sonnen, former champions Robert Whittaker and Israel Adesanya would end up facing each other once again.

“..and as far as who you’re going to book against Adesanya, who you’re going to book against Whitaker, it’s likely going to be for a vacated Championship. Now that’s a hot take and not a lot of people share that opinion with me.” these were his exact words.

He even had a piece of advice for fans who are waiting for what’s next in the middleweight division. “Before you do anything, do what Pereira is doing. Which is sit back and wait for the outcome of the Teixeira versus Jamahal Hill.” pointed out ‘The American Gangster’.

So in Sonnen’s words, all one can do is “sit back and wait for the outcome of the  Teixeira versus Jamahal Hill” before drawing any conclusions.
