Khamzat Chimaev recently got back to action after his victory over Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. This win against ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ earned him a shot at the middleweight title. However, destiny had other plans.

Despite getting the title shot, Chimaev decided against fighting Sean Strickland at UFC 297, because of a broken hand. Instead, ‘Borz’ decided to call out Alex Pereira to face him at light heavyweight. But a UFC legend believes that the Chechen might be making the wrong move.

With a 13-0 record, ‘Borz’ has surely established himself as one of the best fighters in the UFC right now. And with a winning streak like his, no doubt he feels confident enough to call out Alex Pereira. However, UFC legend Michael Bisping believes that by picking a fight against Pereira, Chimaev might be biting off more than he can chew.

“That might give warning bells if you’re a Khamzat fan because anytime he steps up in competition, any time he went against a true elite, he struggled,” he said.

‘The Count’ further went on to state how there are already quality opponents looking for an opportunity to get in the octagon with the 29-year-old. “There’s other people that wanna get their hands on Khamzat. We’re talking about Dricus Du Plessis, we’re talking about Jiri Prochazka, we’re talking about potentially Sean Strickland. And some of these people are a little bit p*ssed off.”

Bisping also finds it concerning that Chimaev is looking to change his weight class again after he already moved up to welterweight to face Usman. ‘The Count’ believes that Chimaev should already pick a weight class to stick to. “So he gets through Usman and now he wants to fight Pereira. I mean, just pick a weight class, bro… [do the] hard part, scratching and clawing your way up the ladder, getting through all the ranked opponents to becoming the number one contender.”

While Khamzat Chimaev is looking to face Alex Pereira in the light heavyweight division, middleweight fighter Dricus Du Plessis has announced that he wishes to take on the Chechen after he is done defeating Sean Strickland at UFC 297 in Toronto.

Speaking to MMA News, Stillknocks said, “I think the UFC is probably going to want to do Khamzat. He’s a big draw and they said if he wins this fight against Usman that he will get a title shot. if that’s the fight, I would gladly as champion take out the boogeyman, it would be a massive pleasure.”

However, the matchup will depend on whether Du Plessis manages to defeat Strickland and gets crowned as the new middleweight champion, thus taking on the next contender in line, i.e., Chimaev. What do you think?
