Israel Adesanya seems to have his work cut out for him in Alex Pereira. The 6’4″ Brazilian became the first man to finish Adesanya in the middleweight division as he knocked him out to win the UFC middleweight belt at MSG in November 2022. However, after Dana White announced their rematch at UFC 287 in April, Adesanya has a chance at retribution. Meanwhile, ‘Poatan’ left a menacing message for his rival following the announcement.
Pereira proved to be Adesanya’s kryptonite as he followed ‘Stylebender’ from kickboxing to MMA to go 3-0 over him across two sports. Previously, he beat Adesanya twice, once via knockout, during their kickboxing days. Now both fighters have transitioned to MMA and are adding chapters to their legendary rivalry.

Alex Pereira overcame some serious adversity to secure his win over Adesanya at UFC 281. The former champion almost finished ‘Poatan’ at the end of round one. He also lost rounds later, as Adesanya tactfully took the fight to the ground on occasions. However, his killer mentality paid off as he found a home for that vicious left hand and put Adesanya out on his feet.
Now, anticipating his next encounter with his greatest rival, Alex Pereira only has one message to Adesanya and the world.

“Pronto pra matar !”– ‘Poatan’ wrote in the caption of a recent Instagram post. In Portuguese, it translates to “Ready to kill!” The image in the post shows a fight-ready Pereira with Glover Teixeira in his corner.
While their first fight was huge, this rematch could be even bigger. In his fifth MMA fight and fourth UFC fight, Pereira became a champion. Prior to the rematch announcement, Pereira was chasing another legendary feat, as he called out Jamahal Hill.
Will Pereira go for ‘champ champ’ status?
After his mentor Glover Teixeira lost to Jamahal Hill at UFC 283 in Brazil, Pereira called out the new light heavyweight champion. However, this did not come as a surprise, as several fans expected Pereira to move up and avenge Glover Teixeira.

After announcing his retirement following the loss at UFC 283, Teixeira revealed Pereira would move up to light heavyweight in the future. If the 35-year-old can get past Adesanya once more at UFC 287, he could start plotting a move up to 205 lbs. Furthermore, he could even aim to join the prestigious list of UFC ‘champ champs.’
Jamahal Hill has already expressed his willingness to defend his title against Pereira. Therefore, ‘Poatan’ has a lot to gain from a victory at UFC 287.
