On April 8, 2023, the UFC 287 fight between Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira for the middleweight title shocked and surprised the entire MMA world. Adesanya had lost to Pereira in their first fight at UFC 281. However, this time, he was determined to win back his belt. And that’s exactly what he did, knocking out Pereira in the second round. The fight was competitive, with both fighters landing significant strikes. However, Adesanya was able to capitalize on an opening in the second round and finish the fight. But it was his action after the win that caught a lot of heat.

After the win, Adesanya celebrated in a unique way. He mocked Pereira’s sons by falling to the ground in the same way Pereira had after being knocked out. Adesanya pointed at one of Pereira’s sons while doing this, who had mimicked Adesanya being knockout in an earlier fight.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Pereira addressed Adesanya‘s celebration. ‘Poatan’ said that he did not have any ill will toward Adesanya. Pereira also said that he would not do the same if he were in Adesanya‘s position. “I don’t know, I wouldn’t do the same. I can play with him. I’ve always played with him, I teased him. It was something that happened, but he… I don’t know… it’s another child,” said Pereira.

Pereira also revealed that he had seen his son being influenced by others to mimic Adesanya‘s knockout. “I saw that he was being influenced by other people, right? Sometimes even he participated in some interviews and some reporters said, you’re going to do this?”
