Even with Conor McGregor’s absence, UFC 300 is shaping up to be a thrilling PPV. While the grand fight event is months away, there have been rumors about UFC CEO Dana White putting together a super fight between light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and interim heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall.

According to rumors, this fight will take place in the heavyweight division and give Pereira a chance to become the first UFC fighter to win 3 different titles. Moreover, fans are also excited to see the two elite strikers face each other. However, the fight is far from being made official.

Interestingly, both Aspinall and Pereira seemed interested in fighting at some point. The English fighter became the Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion at UFC 295 and is looking forward to fresh fights. Meanwhile, although “Poatan” has never fought in the heavyweight class, it took him just 7 bouts to become a “double champ,” which includes a switch from middleweight to light heavyweight. The Brazilian also posted a cryptic Instagram story hinting at this fight.

However, Aspinall has recently revealed why his bout against Pereira might not take place. “He wants to defend his 205 title. Which I understand,” he said, in a recent X post.

It is true that Pereira has never successfully defended a UFC title. According to Aspinall, it seems like “Poatan” first wants to defend his light heavyweight title. Hence it is likely that fans witness Alex Pereira fight at UFC 300, but not against Tom Aspinall.

Who will Alex Pereira fight?

If not Tom Aspinall, then who? There is no official conformation from the UFC on this. However, there are a few fighters in the line to challenge for the light heavyweight title. On top of this list is the former champ Jamahal Hill. Last year, he vacated his title due to an Achilles heel injury. The UFC might give him a title shot for his return, since the American fighter never lost his title.

Moreover, top-ranked fighters Johnny Walker and Magomed Ankalaev are set to face one another at UFC Fight Night on January 13th. The winner of this fight might also register himself for a title shot against “Poatan.” Not to forget, Aleksandar Rakic and Jiri Prochazka are facing each other at UFC 300. The winner of this fight can also get a shot at the champion. Who do you want to see fight Alex Pereira next? Let us know in the comments below.
