UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira initially intended to make a quick turnaround after his epic win at UFC 300. But that did not turn out the way he planned. However, there are new reports now that ‘Poatan’ could be fighting a former rival for his second 205-pound title defense in the summer.

UFC 302’s headliner has attracted all kinds of patrons and features a lightweight clash of the ages between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier. As such, Alex Pereira found his way to Lafayette Street in Newark, New Jersey, as he bumped into MMA reporter Aaron Bronsteter at the Prudential Center, and that was when he spilled out the plans regarding his next fight.

During his conversation with Alex Pereira, Aaron Bronsteter came to learn that the light heavyweight champion is going to fight a former rival. By a former rival, some would think a trilogy against Israel Adesanya. And why not? Those two have put on two of the biggest fights in recent memory. However, it’s not ‘Izzy’, but a light heavyweight natural, Jiri Prochazka, who he defeated to win the coveted 205-pound gold.

Jiri Prochazka returned to action at UFC 295 after a year of getting sidelined due to a shoulder injury to claim the title he never lost. But he fell short after getting knocked out by the towering Brazilian. And now, a rematch could be in order, as Alex Pereira revealed. That’s what Dana White has in mind.

The date of his return will also be in the summer, according to Alex Pereira. However, ‘Poatan’ seems to be in a little bit of uncertainty regarding the event or the date of his return because he seems unaware of what Dana White has in store for the Brazilian ace.
