After an illustrious kickboxing career in Glory, Alex Pereira has taken the UFC by storm. The two-division champion established himself as arguably the best striker in the UFC with his emphatic victory over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295.

Soon after he became the 205-pound champion, the Brazilian was asked if he would want to move up and fight for the heavyweight title. In addition, there have been speculations recently that Poatan may feature on the UFC 300 anniversary card against Tom Aspinall of all people. And Pereira has cleared the air on the rumors in a recent interview.

After Alex Pereira sent out a bizarre tweet that said “30+300=3,” fans theorized that this was ‘Poataan’s way of hinting he might fight at UFC 300 in April next year. There were also speculations he might fight interim champion Tom Aspinall at the card.

The Brazilian, however, has come out and clarified that this was not the case, explaining that his tweet was related to a dream he had and put to fans to help make sense of it. The light heavyweight champion said that while he was willing to fight anyone, moving up to the UFC’s heaviest division would require a lot of work.

“I fought at middleweight, and I had to reset my body to go up to fighting at light heavyweight. I’m a fighter. I’ll fight anybody, anywhere. I have the height and the size of a heavyweight, but this is a thing that’s got to be programmed, put some work in,” Pereira said.

While he was open to the possibility of the future and felt he could fight at heavyweight, ‘Poatan’ declared that he was focused on the light heavyweight division at the moment. “It’s not just something I jump in on. I want to make things the right way. I can definitely fight at heavyweight, maybe some day in the future. But it’s got to be something that’s well planned. So right now I’m focused on my light heavyweight reign,” he added. Pereira also discussed the status of a possible trilogy with arch-rival.

Pereira had called out his nemesis champion Israel Adesanya, who has been on hiatus from fighting following his shock UFC 293 loss to Sean Strickland, for a trilogy. Adesanya, however, laughed off the offer on his YouTube channel and advised the champion to “move on” from him.

“No, that’s in the past now, bro. Let it go. And I’m focused on, now, my next steps. I’ve been having some direct conversations, good conversations, that’s making me really happy. But I cannot talk about it yet. But I’m focused on a different direction now,” he told TheMacLife in an interview on YouTube.
