The MMA world first got to know about his intensive weight cuts in his first MMA fight against Adesanya at UFC 281. Pereira was looking drained at the weigh-ins. Moreover, it was obvious that the former kickboxing champ was shredding in double digits to make weight. Fans saw something similar in his next fight, after which Pereira announced his move to the light heavyweight division.

Chael Sonnen thinks Alex Pereira doesn’t know his ideal weight
Chael Sonnen recently posted a video on his YouTube channel talking about Pereira’s recent weight update. Having been a UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger himself, Sonnen knows both divisions more than most.

According to the American Gangster, each fighter has an ideal weight at which he performs the best. Further, Sonnen also added that most of the fighters usually remain unaware of their ideal weight. He gave the example of UFC legend Daniel Cormier and talked about how DC was a light heavyweight for a long time but found success in the heavyweight division.

Talking about Pereira in the same context, he claimed that Poatan doesn’t know what his ideal weight is. “Every athlete has a number. Very seldomly does that athlete ever learn what that number is. So that would mean even more seldomly do we the audience know…Pereira is a world champion at 185 pounds. But I submit for you that perhaps he does not know where his best body of work comes from.”
