In the main event of UFC Vegas 54, Rakic faced Jan Blachowicz for a 5-round bout. The fight began with a hard kick to Rakić’s calf, followed by an exchange of a flurry of fists. The first round went to Blachowicz, while the second was scored in favor of the Austrian fighter. However, it was the third round that witnessed trouble for ‘Rocket.’
Following a brief exchange of strikes, one of Rakic’s jabs dislodged the Polish fighter’s mouthpiece. Seconds after he fixed his mouthpiece, ‘John’ sent forth an outside low kick. To evade the sweep, Rakić stepped back and that’s when the accident happened. His right leg gave way under him and the Austrian mixed martial artist tumbled down in agony. Blachowicz stepped in immediately but refrained from striking, seeing that the fight was already over. The fight ended with Blachowicz’s victory via a round 3 TKO by a leg injury.
Later, it was revealed that ‘Rocket’ had torn his ACL and had to undergo surgery to fix it. Before his fight against Jiri Prochazka, he said, “It happens, you know, what can I do? God had other plans with me tonight. My knee popped, my right knee. his knee I injured three weeks ago on a training, in a sparring. It happened. You know it’s not a lie, it happened. The knee wasn’t 100 percent. I thought it was. This oversight caused him the match.”

Returning from his injury after about 2 years, Rakić faced Prochazka at UFC 300. However, the ‘Rocket’ was unable to compete with the Czech fighter’s striking prowess. While the first round went in favor of Rakić, the second round witnessed a stronger version of ‘The Czech Samurai.’ Prochazka threw a barrage of punches after taking the fight to the ground, as Rakić simply turtled up to protect his vitals. Finally, Herb Dean, the referee in charge of the fight called it off and Prochazka won the fight by TKO via punches.
While the light heavyweight has lost the last 2 fights of his career, there was a time when he went on a long winning spree. This has often intrigued the MMA realm to wonder about how Rakic fared in his professional MMA career.
