When you talk about the brashest personalities of UFC, Paulo Costa and Khamzat Chimaev capture the top spots of the list. Both fighters have been at odds for numerous months now. The feud has been played out on social media and in interviews. Both fighters take jabs at each other wherever they get the chance.

Fans are already frothing at the mouth with the prospect of Paulo Costa fighting Khamzat Chimaev in the octagon. With Chimaev’s recent move to the middleweight division, this possibility has come one step closer to reality. Recently, Paulo Costa appeared on the MMA Hour Show with Ariel Helwani and gave some huge updates about his potential fight against Chimaev.

Is Paulo Costa vs Khamzat Chimaev going to happen?

When Helwani asked Costa about fighting Chimaev, the Brazilian fighter had a confident response. “Yes it is I think this is going to happen”, said ‘The Eraser’. A fight between the two has been rumored to happen in October in Abu Dhabi. However, Costa disclosed the fact that he wants to fight before October.

“I’m bothering UFC to schedule a fight before, like June”. The 32-year-old MMA fighter is surely excited to enter the octagon soon.

The #5 middleweight fighter has not stepped in the octagon since August 2022. His last fight was against Luke Rockhold, which he won via a unanimous decision. Even Chimaev has not fought in the UFC since September 2022. His last fight was a catchweight bout against Kevin Holland, which ended with a dominant victory for him.

So that brings in the topic as to why the UFC is targeting the fight for October, especially when one factor in the inactivity of both fighters.

Why is UFC scheduling the fight for October?

The absence of both these fighters for such a long time has puzzled fans for a long time. Why can’t the UFC book them sooner if they both are available? Costa answered this question in the same interview.

Costa also explained that there is an agreement between the UFC and the government of Abu Dhabi or Dubai to schedule big fights for that location. “I think because they have some agreement on Abu Dhabi or Dubai’s government so they need to push big fights for there”, said Costa.
