More than anything else, Joe Rogan calls UFC fights for, quite literally, the love of the game. The JRE podcast host is one of the most famous people in the world with the largest platform of anyone anywhere in the English-speaking world, which has made him immensely wealthy.

Regardless, not many fans know but the stand-up comedian used to be a popular sitcom, and used to host Fear Factor, which went on to become a runaway success. However, despite all of this experience, he told comedian Jim Norton, whose show inspired his podcast why he enjoys being a UFC commentator the most.

Jim Norton spoke about him not going to television, and preferring to be on the radio, unlike what most comedians in the nineties and two-thousands did. He felt he was not a good fit for television and preferred to operate on the radio where his comedic talents shone.

Rogan shared his experience in the television business, and how as a sitcom actor, reality TV game show host, and sports commentator he has covered the entire gamut the industry had to offer. “I did all of that stuff, though. I did the business stuff. I did television. I did sitcoms. I did. I literally have done most things. I started off doing a sitcom. I was on a TV game show. I went to sports commentary,”  Rogan conveyed.

However, what he enjoyed most, predictably, was being a UFC commentator. He told Norton that he enjoyed calling fights because he loves the sport and gets to watch and talk about his favorite fighters, unlike his other pursuits, which he felt were just jobs, not things he was passionate about.

“I did the commentary for the UFC. I’ve done all these things. But the UFC is the most freeing because it’s really just something that I love and I get to describe it and talk about it. But the other ones, like they’re just jobs,” he added. Interestingly, Rogan, who used to go on Jim Norton’s radio show in his stand-up comic days, actually got the idea for his podcast because of the radio show.
