Is Jon Jones truly the GOAT, or is he just dodging a real challenge from Aspinall?

Tom Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champion, has long expressed his desire to fight ‘Bones’ in a unification bout. However, it is true that the American has ignored him and, in some way, has prioritized his pending fight against Stipe Miocic next weekend at UFC 309. This has led many to criticize ‘Bones’ for skipping the fight, but Jon Jones has an answer for every critic who claims that he’s ‘ducking.’

Jones recently went live on Instagram to have a fun conversation with his fans and relax a bit. However, several critics of his were quick to storm the comments by directly calling him a duck or spamming duck emojis in the comments. But while they expected that it’d draw the ire of the heavyweight champion and he might stop the live session then and there, ‘Bones’ instead decided to clap back at his haters.

He simply asked his critics to come up with a new strategy, since calling him a duck wasn’t enough to irritate the American fighter. Jones further called them juvenile for even thinking that this name-calling would affect him. And if they want to call him something, they can call him the GOAT. He said, “I see quite a few people in here calling me duck. I’m a duck! Call me a duck, call me a chicken, call me a GOAT, call me a dog. I’m not in high school anymore, guys. Grown man out here chasing his dreams. It’s funny that we really live in a world where being called a duck should affect me. Guys, come on.”

This Instagram live isn’t the first time that Jon Jones wondered if his haters were high school kids. As in a now-deleted tweet, ‘Bones’ let his haters know that no criticism is going to change the fact that he is massively rich now and couldn’t care less about their demands. “I’m going to hide in my mansion and not come outside, people are calling me a duck come on oh no my world is over. What is this high school? lol”

Well, it seems like Jones is unaffected by what the critics throw at him. However, this time around, all the hate came toward him after Tom Aspinall took jibes at him and Dana White in a recent interview. White has been called out by fans and pundits alike on several occasions for being biased toward Jon Jones, whom he often calls the best ever in the UFC. This led Tom Aspinall to make a special request to Dana White regarding the GOAT debate if he ends up fighting Jon Jones.

We’re just a few days away from the Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic showdown in the main event of UFC 309; however, Tom Aspinall continues to take a shot at Jon Jones for avoiding a fight with him. Aspinall made a special request to Dana White in a recent interview, asking him to avoid defending Jon Jones in case Aspinall defeats the fighter in the future. He said, “But all I ask is, like, Dana White saying that he’s the GOAT and he’s pound-for-pound number one; if I fight Jon Jones and beat him, he still has to be pound-for-pound—you can’t start saying he’s old then. You can’t say he’s passed it or he’s over blah blah blah. You can’t do that. If he’s the pound-for-pound GOAT or whatever, keep that same energy when I beat him. That’s what I ask.”

Well, it would be interesting to see what response Dana White has in mind for Aspinall’s direct jibe at him. As for Jones, he has hinted that even if he decides not to retire, he’ll most likely fight Alex Pereira rather than Tom Aspinall. But what do you think? Is Jon Jones actually running away from a fight against the interim heavyweight champion? Let us know in the comments.
