In big news for the Bantamweight weight class, current champion Aljamain Sterling has revealed a piece of news that could finally bring a halt to speculations regarding the division. While talking to MMA correspondent ‘The Schmo’, the 33-year-old confirmed his next title defense will be against former champ Henry Cejudo. Sterling, although, also noted that the fight would go ahead in May instead of the earlier speculated timeline of April. As per the 135-pound champ, the decision was made after discussions with his medical team as he heads to Colombia for stem cell treatment on his injured bicep.

Aljamain Sterling reveals fight with Henry Cejudo next

After months of back and forth, the interview seems to have shut down all speculations about the  135-pound division. While talking to The Schmo, Sterling finally confirmed a timeline for the title fight against Henry Cejudo. He revealed that, as per his medical team, the fight should go ahead in May instead of April. Interestingly, Sterling is headed to Colombia to get stem cell therapy done. The country where Cejudo himself had it done recently for an injury of his own. In the case of the bantamweight champion, it is an injury on his bicep that has also been the reason for the delay in the fight getting confirmed. Now, as he spoke, he gave his side of confirmation regarding a possible timeline for the fight.

“Henry ‘triple zero’ is next. 110 % he’s next. It’s not going to be April though. After talking with my medical team and the doctors, we’re going to give myself a little bit more time and it’s going to be May,” confirmed Sterling.

The champion also talked about the injury and how he feels the stem cell therapy will bring him back to his best. “So here we are. I think the stem cells with bio accelerator is going to be very good. I’m very optimistic about that and I think it’s gonna get me back to 100 %, so that I can compete against a tough competitor like triple zero. And I’ll remind him that he should have stayed retired,” stated the 33-year-old.

Sterling on how he plans to beat Cejudo and a possible fight with Sean O’Malley

‘Funk Master’ seems quite confident going into the fight. While predicting an early finish against Cejudo, he even claimed that the division has no more challenges left for him. I could see a second-round finish TKO and after I finish Henry Cejudo, I really don’t think the bantamweight division has anything left for me.” He then continued, bringing up a possible money fight against Sean O’Malley

Although a fight with O’Malley seems like a good prospect, Sterling continued downplaying the number one-ranked Bantamweight.

Interestingly, he also did not leave out his friend and training partner Merab Dvalishvili from the title frame. Continuing his claim that there were no more challenges for him in the division he stated: “So maybe that fight might entice me (Sean O’Malley fight) or I’m probably just gonna go up to 145 and let Merab continue to reign terror to the rest of these guys at the bantamweight division.”
